Good evening dear Hivers. I am glad to take part in this episode of the Hive Learners Prompt titled:
Too Much Freedom.
According to the Oxford Language Dictionary freedom is a right or power to act, speak or think as one wants. It is a state of not being imprisoned. Knowing that when one is not free, he or she loses the ability to act, speak or think for themselves. Freedom could be described as a state of not being under foreign control or despotic government.
From the foregoing definition, what one can deduce is that freedom can be for individuals, family, society or even a nation. Speaking from our historical evidence, at one point or the other in our national life we have been suppressed by powerful interference and that singular action has deprived us of our rights or freedom.
On the national front, a nation that does not control its affairs may be said not to be free or under foreign dominance and have lost its sovereignty. The Universal Declaration For Human Rights gave every human on the surface of the earth the rights or freedom to be treated and dignified. Everyone had the right and freedom to first have life and ensure that other rights or freedom stated in that universal document is respected and if breached or trampled upon, the individual could seek redress in the law court.
Some Of Your Freedom You Never Knew Existed.
Right to Freedom To Live Anywhere: Recently, in our country during the electioneering process that almost tore him apart, I heard people saying that some people from a particular ethnic group who ply their business in other places should return to their hometown. It seemed as if the country could no longer hold.
For the benefit of clarity, you are free to live anywhere around the geography in which your country is defined as much as you are law-abiding. To make this freedom constitutional, it is written and guaranteed in one chapter of the national law book. Hence, the law is binding on all citizens. And to buttress that, the rule of law comes to play. The law is higher than any singular individual.
Rights To the Freedom To Religion: There ought to be nothing like state religion. Individuals have the freedom to choose any religion. It is a matter of choice. People must not be compelled to accept a religion. It ought to be by choice.
There are more rights and freedom that you and I are privileged to receive. You can find more of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights Here
Too Much of Everything Is Right
Let me begin to say that the amount of freedom that has been given to citizens in modern nations across the globe have led to the increase of menace to society.
The freedom given to people to defend themselves in the face of oppression or abuse has led even school children to carry weapons against their school or classmates.
Freedom as declared by the UDHR has limitations. All rights and freedom have their limitations. This is so that excesses can be curtailed.
Rights To The Freedom of Expression: People have trampled on other people in the bid of expressing their own rights. Taking to social media to say ill about our leaders can be classified as defamation of character which is culpable by law. Hence, while expressing yourself, remember that other have their freedom which must be respected
Limitations To Freedom
Too much of everything is bad.
What is recommended is that we should do everything in moderation?
Some of the ways through which too much freedom has caused more harm in our societies are as follows.
Immunity to public office holders.
Political apathy.
Delayed Justice.
Extra-judicial killings. To mention a few.
In world politics, you will agree with me that the level of freedom given to nations for armament is causing serious chaos in the middle east and part of Europe. Nations now hide under the influence of freedom to exploit or become aggressive towards vulnerable nations.
For me, I would prefer that we even declare a state of emergency on civil disobedience and neglect of the real purpose of leadership and governance.
