Christmas is a time of year filled with festivities, traditions and special moments. However, there is one Christmas party in particular that I will always remember for the rest of my life. This party took place several years ago, during my childhood, and even though many years have passed since then, I can still remember every detail of that special night.
The party in question took place at my godmother's house (who is also my aunt). Our entire family had gathered to celebrate Christmas together, additionally my uncle-in-law's siblings were invited along with their wives and children. From the moment I arrived with my mother, the atmosphere was full of joy and excitement. The apartment was decorated with twinkling lights, scented candles and a Christmas tree adorned with sparkling ornaments and twinkling lights. It smelled of cinnamon, cloves and baked turkey, (a valid and tasty substitute for the traditional baked pork leg), creating a truly magical atmosphere.

During the party, we all sat around the table, sharing laughter and delicious home-cooked meals. Conversation flowed easily between generations, as my grandmother shared stories of her own Christmas celebrations when she was young. Gifts were exchanged and the joy on my cousins' faces was contagious. As the evening progressed, music played on the record player, including Christmas carols, Caribbean music, Spanish ballads and salsa, it was all very eclectic.
But what made this Christmas party so special and memorable for me was the feeling of unity and love that filled the house. Christmas had always been a time of family togetherness, but that particular night I felt a deep sense of connection and belonging. Even though we were a diverse family, with different beliefs and opinions, we were all united in the spirit of Christmas.

Since this unforgettable holiday, I have tried to recreate that same sense of togetherness and love in my own Christmas celebrations. I have taken lessons from the way my grandmother and aunts used to gather the family and foster a warm and cozy atmosphere. I have tried to recreate the magic of that night, decorating my home with lights and candles, cooking traditional dishes and creating a cozy atmosphere for my loved ones.
I remember above all the joy of my mother and how she managed to infect everyone present at the celebration, my grandmother also stood out a lot with her eloquence and ease of words when she expressed her ideas and opinions in conversations, on these dates they are no longer in our mortal plane, if not in the spiritual, how much I miss them.
While I will never be able to exactly replicate the magic of that particular holiday party, I feel that I have carried the spirit of that night with me over the years. It has taught me the importance of family, generosity and joy this holiday season. I will always remember that holiday party as a special time in my life, a reminder of what really matters this time of year.
