When I am able to fulfil a desire or achieve a goal, I feel a sense of calmness and well-being, I feel satisfied. What I am about to tell you is not fiction.
Satisfaction varies from case to case and from person to person and is often associated with joy and happiness. This fullness that satisfaction brings with it is usually temporary, because when new needs arise, dissatisfaction sets in.
An example of dissatisfaction for me occurs when it rains, it is almost certain that the electricity service will be interrupted, or intermittent failures in electrical equipment will begin to occur, either by high or low voltage, reducing its useful life or completely damaging the equipment, also the water service is suspended. I have gone through some vicissitudes such as: losing electrical equipment such as televisions, computers, refrigerators and microwaves, all due to power fluctuations, even the voltage protectors burn out! Nobody recognises this and the state does not accept the fact that it is due to the poor maintenance of the country's hydroelectric system.
However, I feel fortunate because I have my urgent needs solved, for example, eating and sleeping.
Sleep satisfies me intensely, because when my brain is rested my memory works perfectly and my creativity and productivity are boosted, I also increase my levels of melanin and serotonin, thus counteracting the effects of stress hormones (adrenaline and cortisol), which helps me to be happier, and emotionally stronger.
Rest has helped me to cope with everyday situations such as crowded public transport, and where the metro systems show delays between stations. At bus stops, queues are endless because of delays in public transport due to lack of buses and fuel.
At work, I feel satisfied in my current job, to which I am very committed, carrying out financial analysis, marketing cleaning products, and I also have an excellent working relationship with both my boss and my co-workers. We are a small company, in which we always share ideas and opinions, I give my best and create a reliable image among others. In addition, we receive a salary compensation well above the average in my country, Venezuela, thanks to the efforts of all the members of this big family.
Personally, I believe that we buy satisfaction with money, by acquiring a good or service that has been previously manufactured or offered to satisfy our needs. When we go to a supermarket or a butcher's shop, we do so because we have to cover a primary need, which is to feed ourselves, and we buy, here supply, demand and the need for the product come into play.
But what satisfies me most is to enjoy the good weather and sunny days with my wife and daughter on holiday, on an island called Margarita here in Venezuela, with magnificent sunshine, wide beaches and many places to visit for our recreation.
Although the airfare to get there is somewhat expensive, it is worth it and we save some money on accommodation and meals, as I have an aunt who runs a real estate agency on site and does not charge us for the stay, as for meals, this type of accommodation has its own kitchen, so we buy food in supermarkets, this being cheaper than eating on the street.
During our stay in the apartment the sun always shone, it never rained, but the power went out several times, which didn't stop us from enjoying ourselves, we managed to forget our problems and dissatisfactions for a while, we had fun and got ready to face the hustle and bustle of the city again.
Living together with the family means adapting to make everyday life more harmonious and pleasant. We should not make a mountain out of a molehill, as this is a sign of dissatisfaction. To avoid this, communication is essential.
