As the saying goes, money is the root of all evil and in this world everything you do depends on money. In all we do we are advised to make money and ensure we are never broke because once you go broke you know your real friends.
Sometimes we come accross individuals who try to show off their money in order to intimidate us or get us to think they are what they’re not. Sometimes we fall for it and sometimes we don’t. It all depends of who we are and what we stand for.
This is a story about someone I met sometime ago and what I learnt from the person. I met this particular person in senior high school. We were in the same level then but I different classes. In our first semester in school we weren’t friends but the next semester classes were shuffled and she found herself in my class.
When she joined our class there weren’t enough seats so she had to perch with me on my seat. With time, we started becoming friends and I got to know more about her. She was a boarder and I was a day student so we didn’t spend a lot of time together aside normal school time.
As most of you might know, boarders eat from the schools dining hall while we the day students eat from the schools canteen. So when it’s first break time, the boarders go for their breakfast while we the day students also go to the canteen. At lunch time too it’s the same procedure.
This friend of mine who was a boarder always goes for dining hall food and it even made some of our mates start making fun or her . She didn’t really care because she claims her parents paid for it so she has the right to eat it. I totally understood that. Some of our mates sometimes didn’t eat the dining hall food always because they claim the food was bad or they just wanted to show off. Sometimes the teachers had to use canes to get them to the dining hall and some of them even ended up getting punished because they missed dining.
One day I met my friends parents and I realised she was from a very rich family yet she acted so humble compared to other students who were always trying to show off with the little money she had. Her parents were so calm and humble and i knew where she got her good manners from. They indeed raised her well. With her composure and how humble she was, no one ever thought she was from an extremely rich family.
One lesson I learnt from my friend was not to judge people based on what we don’t know. She was a very good friend and still is. Some of the boarders shoe acted rich ended up owing other students and that led to lot of fights and issues in school. In all we do we should be humble and not try to show off with our money.
I hope you entered reading this. Thank you.
