As much as technology has advanced over the years, some countries or continents are far more ahead of others when it comes to technology. As a Ghanaian, I always say that China as a country is living in 2030 because what technology is used for in Ghana can’t be compared to the groundbreaking technology China is using. Regardless, life has been made easier for us all to some extent, thanks to technology.
Unto the topic- Language. Language as we all know is dynamic and we can all bear witness to that. Most of our old folks today won’t understand some of the jargon’s and terms we use today because we Gen Z’s have found a way to have our own language and that’s what makes language more beautiful. It can change with time, place and even situations. You’d be surprised by the number of languages beings spoken in just one part of the world.
I would like to believe that most people today speak more than one language be it official or unofficial. I grew up speaking English and Twi, but with time I started to engage with a broader audience and today, I can speak over five languages. Both my parents are multilingual and I’ve met so many other people who equally speak different languages. You would not really comprehend the beautify of language until you’re able to witness and feel if within you.
Learning a new language is a bad thing, it’s actually a very great thing to pursue in life because you would not always be able to have technology at your disposal and we all know for a fact that technology cannot do everything 100% for you. There will always be glitches here and there. Being able to learn new languages is your gateway to freedom in this world. I’ve been there and I know how it feels to always have to ask others what this and that means. I didn’t think language barrier was a thing until i moved to another part of the country. I had to learn the hard way and so many years down the line, i still am not perfect but i would say i am doing a lot better than before . Knowing is the best thing and technology helps facilitate this process and makes it a lot easier.
Not to look very far, even right here on the Hive blockchain, I’ve had people leave comments on my post in Spanish , French and other languages. This doesn’t mean communication has to stop there. I just copy these comments and translate them online. Type my reply in English and translate it into the language the other party would understand and we are good to go. Honestly, there’s really no excuse for language barriers in a world where everything is possible.
To me, the world just keeps getting a lot better with technology but knowing something in your own capacity beats everything
