I am more concerned about the nutritional value of a food than how expensive or cheap it is. However, I think I can count myself lucky to have tasted some dishes around the world, from the cheapest to the most expensive. Food is very important in our lives, as it helps us to be energized and stay alive. No one can survive without food, no matter how strong you are, and not just food but food packed with some nutritional contents that the body needs to function effectively; otherwise, we will lack the immune system we need to fight illness.
Finding myself in Lagos State, Nigeria, has given me the opportunity to explore different dishes in our world today, all thanks to my awesome friends who assisted me in that kind of adventure. Some years ago, when the world's economy was still a bit friendly, what we regarded as cheap food was now expensive, thus my question above, "Are there still cheap food in today's economy?" This is because no matter how you try to prepare an affordable meal today, you will end up spending a lot because of the high cost of food on the market today.
I missed those days when I could prepare a decent meal, rich in proteins and veggies, for me and my family for just $2. Nowadays, you have to spend a lot of money in order to feed an average family. To survive the economy, I have to limit the way we eat while still making sure that the food contains vital nutrients sufficient for the body system.
The most expensive food
I got the opportunity to visit Eko Hotels and Suites with a friend and her family last year. This hotel is one of the biggest hotels in the city of Lagos, located at the heart of Victoria Island šļøšļøšļøšļø and shielded from the hustle and bustle of Laos. Their meal is very expensive, and sincerely, I can't buy it with my money, at least for now, even though I enjoyed the expensive meal.
This meal cost $56 just for a serving. This is the most expensive food I have eaten in my life, and I wish that the family who bought it for me gave me the money instead. I will still use part of the money to prepare a very healthy meal and a balanced diet, and I will still have enough balance to attend to other things. Sometimes, the environment in which we find ourselves makes a food expensive, whether it's of good quality or whatever. Anyway, it was my first time with this kind of expensive food, and I don't know when next I will have the opportunity.
The cheapest food
I found porridge potatoes cheap enough to prepare nowadays and yet healthy. So far, I can say it's the cheapest food I have been eating and still ate today. To prepare this quantity for my kids and me, I spent just half a dollar š°, and it contains some nutrients good enough for our body system to perform its function for sustainability.
Final Thoughts
I think having a luxurious meal once in a while for anyone who can afford it isn't a bad idea; however, what I look out for in each meal I consume is the nutritional contents, irrespective of whether it's cheap or expensive. I eat expensive food once in a while, but when I consume cheap food regularly, I ensure that it is packed with vital nutrients for good immunity.
