The approved minimum wage in my country of residence currently is #70,000 per month. Many years ago, it was #30,000 until 2024, when the increment was made, but yet, it doesn't affect everyone, especially those workers in private firms.
As much as the increment brought a little financial relief to some civil servants, the current harsh economy has rendered the little addition meaningless in my own view. My mom is a civil servant, and I can vividly recall her jubilation when the increment of this minimum wage reflected on her salary. He sat down to budget family needs and saw that it was a little bit accommodating other things slightly, not that it's a good amount but better than where we are coming from.
Today, the so-called minimum wage can't even feed my family comfortably for one week if other home materials needed for daily use are added. For God's sake, what can 70k do for a family of 6 in this economy where virtually everything we can lay hands on is quite expensive, down to salt?
It's even annoying to think of but it's our reality , yet, some private firm still pay their workers #15,000, #20,000, #30,000 etc and I kept wondering how most people survive it this days. Let's say the minimum wage is equal for everyone down to the cleaner and it gets tripled or doubled; honestly, it still can't make anyone rich in this present country. How possible is it? When the cost of transportation alone will take a huge part of the money, although depending on the location of your office, but then I have seen many government nurses living very far away but posted at a very far distance for their job. No atom of consideration even in this economic meltdown.
Which of the needed expenses can we say and leave the other? Is it the expensive foodstuff? Is the petrol at least to charge our gadget? Is it the school fees, house rent, or electricity bills even when we don't see light but pay for it? It's terrible.
Permit me to say that how much my country's minimum wage has to be before I consider myself to be rich is like 20 times the current minimum wage, which is 1.4m per month. It's not greed; it's reality because if we should stop managing life and live a better, healthy lifestyle, then this is the kind of money I can be seeing monthly that could help me attend to important needs comfortably and have some savings in my bank because the way we are going in my country these days, I have no single saving as it stands now.
I mean, who dash me savings when the terrible cost of living is taking almost all the money that flows in? Is it the exorbitant cost of medicals? Or the food? And more... I know my wish isn't even feasible, just saying, but that's the raw truth. How some people survive this economy is still a mystery, maybe loans and God. A bag of rice in my area is already the exact money of the minimum wage . The situation is unimaginable, but then, it's the reality.
Overall, I am looking for 12 streams of income to survive; give me one if it's legit.
