Holidays are times I look forward to and I vividly remember how each of my past holidays went through. I always have fun during holidays though a few times I get to experience sour ones. To me, holidays are the best periods I get to rest as much as I like so it gets on my nerves when I'm busied up with tasks during my holidays (though that doesn't count).
Let me refresh my mind with my sweet holidays before going to the unhappy ones πππ.
I've had lots of fun holidays but one of them turned out to be my favorite. This was during the long vacation last year, I had traveled to my hometown with my husband and kids. My children were so excited when I told them we were traveling to the village that they have been longing for. I must say, the journey started on the road as they were taking their time to view anything they set their eyes on; trees mostly tall palm trees, houses and buildings, soldiers checkpoints, bridges, and mostly the statues of Nigeria's legendaries. They admired it so much that I used the opportunity to tell them about Nigeria's heroes they saw in form of sculptures, the ones I am familiar with.
Then what made this holiday my best was the learning process they underwent during the stay. They gained more knowledge about who they are and where they are from; the culture of their land. They got to interact with the members of our extended family (whom they have not even seen before). They had good times with their grandparents, aunts, uncles, and their cousins. During the period of stay, they were able to speak and understand more words in our dialect and ate more of the native foods that we rarely cook here in Lagos. Normally in the village, food is served on a big tray and all the children are to sit around with their spoons to eat but my kids were sitting waiting for their food as they always eat separately. I told them to join their cousins as they all are meant to eat together which they did and were all eating peacefully not until the food was remaining small. Their cousins started rushing the meal each trying to eat a reasonable amount, my kids on seeing this joined in the Food Battle and I burst out laughing ππ. They had a taste of village life like seeing food being cooked with firewood instead of gas and the rest of it.
It gladdened my heart to see them playing happily with their cousins unlike here in Lagos where they play by themselves in our compound all for security purposes.
Here comes my BAD holiday πππ!!!
This occurred when I was still single and I went to my aunt's house. It has been a long I saw her so I decided to spend the holiday at her place. She and my cousins welcomed me warmly upon my arrival. I received a similar welcome when her husband came back from work at night. We all chatted and went to bed. The next morning, we prayed and ate and everyone went about his or her daily activities. The day was as peaceful as it should be, or so I thought because late at night I heard voices though in low tones exchanging words.
Hmmm, that was the beginning of the worst experience I had over there. The rate at which the husband abuses the wife made me feel scared about getting married. The domestic violence was much and I noticed that the wife always talk back at the hubby once he start demonstrating his anger. After observing all of that, I sat my aunt down and advised her to always keep calm when her husband is in fury roaring like a π¦ lion, after all, two people cannot be mad at the same time no matter how much you think you are right. All the same, she took my advice but then, I didn't want to stay any longer because the environment wasn't conducive to my sanity. I left and on calling her in a few weeks, she confirmed that my advice has been working wonders even though it was difficult for her to apply.
Wow, it's a good thing their marriage took shape again, and even as a married woman today, I learned to apply the same advice I gave my aunt then in my marriage and it's been working for me as well.
