By age 12, every child should be able to understand blockchain technology, cryptocurrencies and how it differs from our traditional system of managing money. I was not taught about this in school and it made me to jump from one telegram crypto group to another while trying to find my way in the crypto space.
I have spent over 2 decades on planet earth and I have seen how technology has continually improved other nations of the world. Some scientists like Ray Kurzweil even believes so much in technological advancements that he claims death would be optional by 2050.
We have all seen the magic of technology in various sectors of our lives and by now we should know cryptocurrency is the money that the internet understands better than our traditional fiat. But the big question remains, why are schools not teaching cryptocurrencies and foreign exchange to kids as they learn.
Infact over the years, the government of my country have tried to put a heavy regulations on the use of cryptocurrency claiming it destabilized the country's fiat money. They even blocked Binance on telecom networks, but over ₦490 billion in crypto transactions happened anyway via p2p in that period.
Our traditional system have proven unreliable as the government have always tried to control, monitor, freeze and devalue the money flow, making it difficult to confidently save your money for a long period of time.
I guess the government are more concern about getting tax and resist innovations that threatens their control. And this is why it is difficult for yhe government to consider teaching students about this innovations in school.
The case with the e-Naira has shown us why decentralized systems remain the best, as it gives the power to the people than to a central body. Bitcoin and stablecoins succeed because no single person controls them.
And so when someone sends you USDT, no CBN governor can seize it, devalue it, or demand explanations. All these are things we were supposed to be taught in school but some of us ended up learning them after school and sadly many do not even have an idea how all these works.
I strongly believe it would do us more good as a nation if we begin to teach our students about monetary policy, forex markets, cryptographic security, because I have seen what happens when we don't.
By age 18, our children should not just use crypto but they should build crypto. Imagine our developers creating decentralized alternatives to the failed government systems.
That would be the path to true financial freedom because some of the richest people I know invested their early years into cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum and it is still profiting most of them till today.
Come to think of it, what is the essence of going to school if graduates can only calculate quadratic equations, compound interest and the rest, but can not invest or understand the underlying technology that powrs cryptocurrency which is the future of money.
We learn so much in school but end up realizing some of the things we were taught are irrelevant in real life. Why not we learn what is beneficial not only to our personal development but to the growth and success of our nation.
