Hello, everyone.
I welcome you to my blog and another wonderful edition of the Hive Learners' featured post. Sugar does more harm than actual good but funny how it cannot be completely eradicated from our lives because to some point I think our lives actually revolves around it, from when we were kids many of us were introduced to it, in the cakes we eat, in our drinks, in the candies we lick, in the juice and drinks we take, we tasted and we could not resist the sweetness and now as adults it feels like we are addicted to it and cannot do without, for some adults they can take things like tea and pap without sugar and then there are some adults like myself that without sugar they cannot take anything that is supposed to have sugar in it, we cannot even taste it because we are so used to those things being sweet right from when we were kids.

The truth is that even our body needs sugar, but when it receives it in excess, that is when it becomes a problem, and avoiding giving our body sugar in excess is quite difficult because almost everything around us is sugar or ends up as sugar in the end. In this part of the world, we have more carbohydrate foods, and in the end, every carbohydrate food that we consume is actually broken down to sugar in our body. The only way we can help ourselves is by reducing the intake of already processed sugar, such as carbonated drinks, and the amount of sugar added to tea or pap and other things that need sugar in them.
Sugar taken in excess can result in diabetes. I have seen an uncle and even neighbors in my neighborhood who suffer from diabetes, and I can tell you for free that it scares me, and it is not a sickness to wish upon an enemy. Diabetes causes you to die while you are still alive; you don't eat what other people eat anymore, your diet changes, and you live the rest of your life on drugs and medications. Those whose cases are critical cannot even get a scratch on their skin, which is hard to avoid because if they do get a scratch, the end result is amputation as the body has lost its ability to heal thanks to excessive intake of sugar.

Both alcohol and sugar, when taken in excess, affect the heart, the liver, and the pancreas; they both affect almost the same vital organs of the body, so for me, sugar is as bad as alcohol and should be regulated and monitored the same way alcohol is regulated and restricted to certain ages. I think there should be like a medical report showing sugar level and if they can still take some sugar presented by individuals before sugar is sold to them; a little regulation will reduce how much and how many people suffer from diseases caused by sugar. Also parents should not introduce kids to sugary things like candies, chocolates, and drinks at a tender age; a child who is still being breastfed is given a big candy just because they are crying and the only way to get them to stop is by giving them a candy that big.
