Good day, people of Hive! Welcome to my blog. So let's dive into today's topic, but firstly, I would like to define what public transportation means.
Public transportation is a shared vehicle, like buses, tricycles, cars, or trains, that people use to get to where they are going to or they are available for use by the general public. So let us go back to the main topic for today.
In my area, public transportation and poor road conditions are the major challenges we are all facing. Petrol prices have surged, making it difficult to afford and even find. Before, the shuttles and tricycles we used to ride to school did collect #200, but now since the cost of petrol is expensive and getting petrol is scarce, they are now charging people more than the actual price they were supposed to collect.
On Saturday morning, when I was going to the MTN office to link my NIN, I noticed two filling stations packed with vehicles, all trying to buy petrol, and the funniest part is that the station closed by 8:00 p.m. and only reopened the next day, leading to all vehicles drivers being frustrated. Even when the filling station people saw that packed vehicles were too much in their station, they had to close their gates to prevent more vehicles who were trying to find a way to their filling station. Still, packed vehicles were outside the gate of the filling station looking for an alternative to enter the station and buy petrol.
Additionally, when I was going to school yesterday to write my exam, I didn't have a choice but to enter a tricycle since the shuttles I was waiting for didn't show up in our junction, and also their money is less than the tricycles and bikes. The tricycle driver that carried me charged me #350. When I asked why he would charge me more than the actual price, he said the cost of petrol is expensive and difficult to get (scarcity), which results in them buying black market from those who are selling it, so I left it because there's nothing I can do about it.

Another major issue is the poor road conditions. In my area, the roads are so damaged that they can easily damage vehicles e.g potholes. As a result of the bad road, the vehicle drivers charge people more than the actual price, and if you ask them why they are charging you, all they will say is that can't we see that the road is poor and bad, and what if in the process of them carrying us something has happened to their vehicles? Are we the ones to repair it back for them?
What way do you think that this would be solved?
The only way all this would be solved is when the government interferes and does what they can to help solve the problem we are all facing. What's the reason why we have leaders if they can't address the issues with the high cost of petrol and the poor road conditions? And because of all these, vehicles drivers are charging people, and to go out, it's now a problem because of the scarcity of petrol. It's high time our leaders find solutions to improve the situation we are facing because we are already getting tired and frustrated.
