Good day, people of Hive! Welcome to my blog. Today's topic is from Hive-Learners which says:In for the Money. So let's dive in.
Honestly, it is really painful when we hear that someone could not get treatment in the hospital because they did not have money. Sometimes people are rushed to the hospital in serious condition, maybe because of an accident, injuries, or sickness, and instead of doctors attending to them immediately due to how critical the situation is, the family of the patient will first be asked to pay money or deposit half of the amount before they can start treating the person. To me, that is very sad because we are talking about human life.
But I can't totally blame the doctors because they are also following the hospital policy, and I'm sure if they don't follow the policy, it may result in serious consequences for them. Yes, I know hospitals also need money to run. Doctors and nurses need to be paid, and the hospital also has many amenities and expenses to take care of. So, I understand that treatment cannot always be free. But still, I feel that when it is an emergency situation, saving the person's life should come first before talking about payment. People always say doctors are meant to help save lives, and I understand what they are trying to say. But if we look at it from another angle, we will see that some doctors are not really at fault for the way they behave toward their patients.
Why is that? Doctors also have families to cater for, and we have some hospitals that owe their doctors close to four or five months' salary. And how much are they even paying them? So that is why some doctors insist that patients either make full payment or deposit half of the money first. Although we still have some doctors who, despite the hospital policy, go ahead and treat their patients first, but such doctors are rare.
I was once told by one of my friends that a woman was admitted to the hospital and her injury was very serious. The doctor in charge of the woman's case told the family that unless they made full payment or paid half first, they would not start any treatment on her. But due to the lack of attention and treatment, the woman later died, and yet the hospital still collected money from the family for wasting their time. When she told me this, I was angry because to me, doctors are like small gods after God because they are meant to save lives, and I didn't expect such a thing to happen to the woman. But at the same time, I can't completely blame both the doctors and the patients because doctors are sometimes just following their hospital policy, while the patients, not all of them can afford the hospital bills.
To me, I will say that the government has a big role to play. Many people cannot afford hospital bills because things are already hard. If the government supports hospitals more and improves healthcare, it will make treatment easier for patients.
Another thing that can help is support from people. Some people truly want treatment but simply do not have the money. Hospitals and organisations can work together to help such patients instead of turning them away completely.
In conclusion, I believe human life is more important than money. Yes, hospitals need funds to operate, but there should still be compassion and understanding. Nobody deserves to lose their life just because they could not afford treatment at that moment.
