Good day, people of Hive! Welcome to my blog. Today’s topic is from Hive-Learners, which says:Wild and Yours. So let’s dive in.
Honestly, owning wild animals like lions, tigers, hyenas, snakes, etc. may look exciting. Some people will say that if they have enough money, space, etc., they would want to have wild animals as pets. Just like I said, it may sound exciting, but it has its own disadvantages.
Firstly, wild animals are called wild for a reason. They are not meant to live among humans or be treated like dogs or cats, or anything related to domestic animals, because we know that domestic animals are allowed to live among humans. Even if wild animals are raised from a young age, their natural instincts do not disappear. We know that a lion will always have the urge to hunt, and a tiger will always be territorial. This makes them unpredictable and dangerous. Not only dangerous to strangers, but also to their owners. Like what happened in my face, I have seen a dog, which is a domestic animal, bite its owner and lead him to the hospital. Now imagine what will happen if a wild animal attacks its owner; it will definitely lead to death.
Some people will say that since they are the ones raising them from a young age, they will know how to control them. But this is a lie, because a day will come when the animal may later attack or even kill its owner, just like I mentioned. This is not because the animals are evil, but because they are behaving naturally.
Secondly, taking care of wild animals is more than just feeding them or giving them shelter. Just like we always see them in the zoo or on TV, these animals are used to wide open spaces where they can move freely. Now imagine them being caged or fenced; they will lose the freedom they naturally need. This can make them stressed, sick, or even aggressive.
Another important issue is safety. When wild animals are kept in homes or private areas, everyone around is at risk. If such an animal escapes, it can seriously injure or even kill people. Even the animal itself can be in danger, because if it escapes, it may be killed by hunters just to protect people.
This reminds me of when I was still living with my late grandma in our hometown, before I gained admission into school. There was a man we called Ogun Sheriff. He was a hunter, along with his brother. One Saturday, after we finished praying, my cousin sister and I were preparing to cook for everyone at home when he called us from his house. He was living directly opposite our house. He told us he wanted to show us something, and we said we would come after cooking. After we finished cooking and serving everyone, we went to his house. He took us into his parlour, and that was when we saw a big and huge hyena chained. We were very scared, and the hyena was looking at us with bloodshot eyes, as if it was looking for a way to break free and attack us.
When we asked him how he caught it, he said they went hunting on Friday and saw it, and that we were the only ones he had shown. We asked him if he wanted to kill it or sell it, but he said he wanted to rear it by keeping it alive. I don’t know how people got to know about it, but the news reached our king. He called him and told him that he must either kill the hyena or return it back. With no other option, he sold the hyena to someone who worked in a zoo.
On the other hand, zoos are run by trained professionals. These professionals study animal behaviour and know how to care for them properly. Yes, I know that not all zoos are in perfect condition, but it is still better that way. So instead of rearing them, it's better that they are taken to the zoo because they will be safe in the zoo than living among people.
In conclusion, wild animals belong in the zoo where professionals can care for them properly or in a desert places where they can move freely without any problem. Wild animals are not meant to live with humans because they can be dangerous to everyone. To me, I will say we can love wild animals from a distance, but having them as pets is not a good thing.
