Education is the process of Teaching and learning. Education goes far beyond the school or any structure.
This topic is one that interest me so much, I have gone through a lot of post today and I have been able to learn a lot from people's thoughts on the topic.
The topic is that : "Should Money be used to reward a student for his or her Excellent performance?"
This is a very interesting one, a lot of people post have been talking about how money shouldn't be a reward whenever someone comes Top of the class or perhaps whenever anyone win an Educational Contest.
Money is a very Great motivator or I will put is as "money is the best Motivation" I know many people will raise an eyebrow at this but I have a lot of points to back this up.
Sometimes I wonder why the Educational system is so underappreciated, Teachers are underpaid, professor getting peanut payment after sacrificing their ass off to bring up a lot of responsible and law-abiding citizens. While other people get million, millions of dollars for a job or profession that cannot weight the importance of Teaching.
Sometimes I do wonder why a lot of Unimportant shows / programs are being paid and sponsored by billionaires and Rich stakeholders, at the end of the Show or contest, we see the contestants Win Massive amount of Money, while any educational contest is being overlooked or neglected, no big sponsor or endorsement, and the contestants and winners ends up going Home with rubb*sh prizes. It is so Ridiculous and Heart breaking.
If shows like Big Brother Naija or Big Brother Africa can pay their contestants tens and Hundreds of Millions, Why will the winner of World Mathematics competition go home with anything lesser.
The Other time I read in the news that A particular University awarded the BEST performing Engineering Student ( First Class) a hundred thousand Naira prize.
I was just overly angry with the school management and also with the Messed up system of things.
The most annoying one is winner of Cowbell Mathematics Competition, going home with ridiculously small money with no Endorsement, no special recognition from media or Political people or so.
My thoughts on Rewarding Student or Any Learner that Came Top of the Class or won any Educational Contest is that: "Money should be used to motivate and reward them" if possible endorsement and Job should be given to the ones that finished their University or any tertiary institutions.
This particular point may be out of the Context of the topic, but I feel the need to stress it out, that our teachers,lecturers, professors, should be appreciated more too. Increasing their salaries and giving them the luxury they deserved too.
It's a really painful thing when people say "Education is a scam" in My Country, this is because of the state of Education in My Country, it is so much undervalued now. Just look at how much the pay politicians, how they throw parties around and then The teachers that builds them up with the knowledge and understanding are being underpaid.
