I know that on countless occasions I’ve been very vocal here about my countless dislikes about a lot of things here in my country Nigeria and many of you who aren’t Nigerian but read my blogs would most likely think that this place is a very very terrible place to live but to be honest, that isn’t true. Nigeria isn’t perfect but to be fair, we have some good things working for us and if you’re ever to come visit, please do, I’m more than certain you will enjoy your stay here.
Putting aside the corrupt police system we have here (which most countries also have) and the fact that a lot of things don’t work here, my anger with the country is the bad name it’s corrupt citizens has given to the country. It’s one thing to live in a corrupt country, it’s another thing to not be able to live in another country because of your corrupt country.
Nigeria used to be the giant of Africa and we were welcomed almost everywhere but now, not even neighboring countries like Ghana and South Africa wants us anymore and after what happened last night (which I will get to in a minute) I don’t think Ghana would want anything to do with us at all Lol.
One thing about being a citizen of a country known to be the place with one of the highest numbers of internet fraudsters is that when you meet foreigners online, people you know you can build good relationships with them and even business relationships and they ask you the where are you from question, you become a little bit scared to tell them the truth because you know that the word that comes out of your mouth next could either make or break that relationship.
I remember one time a friend of mine here on hive had asked me what country I was from, I was at home at that time and had asked both of my parents what country I should tell him. I was going to go for South Africa but my dad had told me to go for the truth. “What will be will be” he had said to me and I remember holding my breath till he responded after I told him I was Nigerian.
I hate it, I hate the fact that the name of my country could literally make me miss life changing opportunities simply because some idiots couldn’t work real hard to earn clean money but instead had to go defraud people just to do that.
Nigeria vs Ghana
So last night was World Cup qualifiers and Nigeria was playing its second leg against The Black Stars (Ghana) after drawing its first leg (1-1) at Ghanaians home. The match ended with another draw (1-1) which automatically meant that Ghana had qualified (with an away goal) and would be going for the World Cup and Nigeria will not. What happened next though was shocking.
As usual, Nigerians decided to disgrace themselves and give themselves more bad reputation, the fans stormed the stadium and attacked everywhere. It was like a full blown riot. I hope no one was hurt, especially the Ghanaians because like I said earlier, the relationship between both countries has been a little bit shaky and hurting any Ghanaian would only make things worse.
God help Nigeria.
