Today, I was seated in my room all by myself as usual when I found myself thinking about something that immediately brought a smile to my face. If there's one thing I would love to do when I eventually do get rich, it would be to randomly put a smile on people's faces by just sending them gifts without even informing them about it. And last night, I saw myself thinking about one of those people that surely would deserve those gifts from me.
During my days as a student, there were days when I'd be so broke that I couldn't afford money to even buy pure water due to the many expenses I had to make as a student.
For those who don't know what pure water is, over here in Nigeria we have different ways in which water is being packaged and sold. We have the plastic bottled water, which I'm sure is also available all over the world, but we also have a cheaper version of it that is packaged using a little nylon sachet. We call that pure water over here, and we usually get about twenty pieces in one bag.
So you could either buy it piece by piece in stores around you or just buy an entire bag. It all depends on how much you have to spend.
Well, back then, there were days I was so broke that I couldn't even afford even one piece of pure water. So I would go to this neighbor of mine to ask him for pure water, and the young man always did something that fascinated me.
Rather than give me one piece of water like everyone else would do, he would instead give me two pieces, almost as if saying, “Just in case you finish the first one and still need to drink another.”
To everyone else, doing something like that would almost feel like nothing, especially due to the fact that they're so cheap. But to someone like me at that point in time who couldn't even afford to pay for one, that gesture was everything to me.
And for that reason, it has refused to leave my mind. All I'm hoping for is that I get the chance to repay his kindness someday.
