Sometimes in order to get something that you like, you have to first pretend like you don't like that stuff, and no, I'm not talking about girls.
Experience has taught me that sometimes, people tend to want something only after you've indicated interest in that thing, so they want it not because they actually do want or need it but just because you want it.
A few weeks ago, something happened between I and a friend and it's nothing really serious but that entire situation will perfectly explain the message I'm trying to pass here.
You see, I was doing some clean up in my room and while I was cleaning, I had taken out some trash and some other stuff that I felt I would no longer need. I had taken them out with intentions to throw them again...but the plan was to keep them in front of my door and when I was done cleaning, I would take them downstairs to where the wastebin was located.
When I took out the first box filled with stuff, I couldn't look into the box inside my room because I had no idea what was in it, I didn't want something like a rat jumping out of it and going to hide somewhere inside the house. So I had taken the box out and had slowly gone through its content outside.
While I was going through the box, a friend of mine stood and was watching me closely as I went through everything until I got to a plastic bucket that also had some trash in it. This plastic bucket was still in perfect shape, it was just dirty.
I remember looking at that plastic bucket and deciding that I didn't need it anymore (I was just too lazy to wash it), so I had dumped it back into the box, hoping to take it to the wastebin later in the day. But surprisingly, the moment I dropped the plastic, that friend of mine had rushed it, almost like I had thrown away a bucket of gold.
The moment I saw his reaction to grabbing the bucket, it suddenly felt like I had thrown away something very valuable, so I had immediately change my mind and suddenly had a million reasons why I needed that bucket back. I ended up getting it back (and yes, I know I was wrong for doing that) but that wouldn't have been the case if he had waited for me to go inside before going for the bucket.
The moral of the story is that sometimes, people tend to want what you want just because you want it. And sometimes, they don't mind stopping you from having that stuff just so that they could have it for themselves... So the best thing to do always is never make your intentions known to anyone, do your things quietly and successfully, then you'd be good.
