As a kid, I had two favorites sports while growing up, table tennis and football. But my dad actually didn’t like seeing us play table tennis because according to him, it was a poor man’s sport, so I kind of shifted my focus fully on football. I remember during the weekends, my dad would bring us all out and we would all do a little bit of football training in front of our house and all of that contributed to my love for the sport.
I remember one time I was playing football in my street and these elderly men who were watching us had promised to give the best team some money, I had played like hell that day and at the end of the day, I and my team had won and it felt so good because that was the first time I made money from actually just playing football.
For some of you who don’t how football is played, football is a game played by twenty-two men or women. Someone ones made a joke that football was a funny sport because twenty-two people struggle to get a tiny ball only for them to kick it away the moment they have it.
Anyways, each and everyone of this men have a position they play on the football field. We have the goal-keepers who are the people who stand at the goal post to prevents the ball from entering it. The goal keepers are the only people permitted to use their hands, any other person who uses his or her hand during the game would most likely be fouled. And then we have the defenders, the midfielders, the strikers and so on.
It’s a game that’s being played for ninety minutes but on special occasions where a winner is needed for that match, they play for a hundred and twenty minutes and if no winner is determined by then, they go on to what we call a penalty shootout which is a situation where it’s just a goalkeeper, a player and the ball.
Just like every other sports, football has its rules. And has someone who makes sure that they follow those rules, that someone is known as a referee. He’s the guy who runs around the field with a whistle in his hand and he blows on the whistle anytime someone goes against the rules.
I think that is pretty much every basic thing I can explain about football to someone who has little or no idea about it, any other thing will probably be complex. So this is it, and thank you for reading.
