A beautiful week it is and I am super ready and prepared to see how it turns out in the end. A wonderful day to everyone on Hive and every member of the Hive Learners community.
I believe every citizen of Nigeria would agree with me that this country is great and many of us are proud to be its citizen, but some things should be and shouldn't be, especially with the system of government. When it comes to spending, there are factors to consider so that there wouldn't be a misappropriation of funds or inefficient spending.
Spending is very vital to every human being and it's important to know how to spend to be organized and efficient. One of the questions to ask ourselves when spending for daily, weekly, or monthly needs is: is what am buying or spending on worth it?
Spending unnecessarily or without a budget will lead to financial challenges which would make one go into debt. Nigerian is facing such a situation and it hurts me to see how this country goes into binge borrowing and still would spend on irrelevant things when there are other important ones to attend to.
Take, for instance, the educational sector, most especially the federal and public schools. There is not enough equipment to aid students learning in classrooms. Teachers aren't provided with amenities to help in giving the best teaching to students which ends up causing decadence in schools. There is no motivation and encouragement for teachers when they are not being paid salaries at the right time. That is why they are being owed for months when they need to survive too.
When I was still in school, it hurts me to see how lecture halls are lacking many things; roofs are spoilt which isn't convenient when the sun is out or when there is rain, it affected many of us because these are things lecturers used as an excuse to keep postponing lectures and still end up setting examination questions. Many lecturers would complain about not being paid and some who aren't nice or kind would vent their anger on us by not delivering lectures as expected. There was a lecturer who decided to leave the school because they were owing for months and they couldn't take care of their families.
This is what government needs to focus their spendings on. Fund schools and give students better education, because when things are going smoothly in the education sector, equipment is readily available for students to use in classrooms, it will boost students' achievement in school and even make teachers and lecturers happy always to be present every time.
Another thing they should spend on which they aren't doing well is employment. There are lots of people out there, especially graduates who haven't been employed because there aren't enough job opportunities out there, and this is also caused by the government's inability to provide opportunities with the money they keep borrowing and embezzling. Apart from people who should update their skills, and not complain about the government not giving them a job, I think the government should do what they are supposed to do by providing for entrepreneurs who are keen on growing their businesses.
There are a lot of youths involved in illegal activities because no employment for them, and if they are to trace its cause, the government won't be left out because they refused to spend on the employment sector, thereby sending out more opportunities for those who would be interested to work, get paid on time and live happily with themselves.
One of the things I think the government has spent on which they shouldn't because in the end, it makes us feel they shouldn't have done it in the first place is the issue of naira redesigning.
I still wonder why they did that and ended up destroying things that they had to go back to the usual way. The old naira notes they deprived us of spending is now what we are spending today due to their wrong decision and spending. They wasted money to redesign the new notes but they couldn't find better ways to do it which makes things worse for everyone when the issue of no cash went viral.
As things are getting worse with government indecision towards handling money, we all hope for a miracle to make the country better again.
