Nicknames are like descriptive names given to someone instead of their real names. It is just like a humorous name formed out of one's name or a name associated with something. Just like my name, "Princessbusayo", one can just call it short like, "PrincessB or PB". This is an example of a nickname. We also have nicknames like skinny; if someone is so lean and doesn't add weight, Dave for one bearing David and so on. Nicknames are just for fun and are always sweet to pronounce. I could remember when my immediate younger sister started calling me "Oil Money" because of how I was spending money during Christmas last year, I had to caution her to stop calling me that when it was already moving like air in the house and this would make others want to bill me. I don´t want billing at this young age now. Lol
Like every other person, I have a unique nickname that has stayed with me for many years. The name is "Buzhay". I could have changed it if Hive allows changing of names because I prefer to be called that than Princessbusayo. Though people offline call me Buzhay while those online know me as PB, except for a few that are close to me who calls me Buzhay, it's rare for such to happen. I even coined a meaning for my nickname which is: A BEAUTIFUL SOUL, SO CHARMING AND FULL OF SMILES.
Why did I give it that meaning?
This is because those qualities speak about me and that is my lifestyle.
Here is how the name came about...
I got this nickname in December 2012 from my Cousin. She came around to visit my aunt and I was around too, and we started gisting about some memories. We got to the point of mimicking my little sister who is the last born. As of then, my sister was still a little girl and was around nine (9) years old. There was a way she used to call my name by adding “Aunty” before it as it is a sign of respecting someone older than you.
Then, she would pronounce “Aunty Busayo” together in a different way as if something was chasing her or rushing a hot yam in her mouth and this pronunciation was so funny and would make others laugh including me. On this day, my cousin remembered the name and everyone that were present laughed it out. She then coined the name “Buzhay” from it. Ever since that day, she started calling me that name and everyone knew about it and it became trending anywhere I go. The only person in my family who still prefers to call me by my real name is Grandma. Even when I keep telling her to call me my nickname, she would just smile.
When I got to school, the name was famous and I never forgot who gave me the name because I got to have many friends through it. My nickname became a description of me. Whenever someone asks of me and the nickname is mentioned, they will see me. Many times when I am passing through a street, I will hear the nickname being called and once I stop to see who called me, I won't even know such a person. In my tribe, they use to say “Many people know the masquerade but not everyone does the masquerade knows”. I smile when I hear people calling me that because it is such a sweet name. Some even tried to coin another name from the nickname but I disagreed, telling them how this name means a lot to me and I wouldn´t want any other name. The name brightens my mood so well than my real name which I love and enjoy.
I still bear the nickname today and I don't think it would ever be erased as it has gone viral. I still love to be called that name. Some people do not even know my real name but the nickname has gotten so used to them. I can never change that name because it's like a signature and I would prefer people calls me that. Yes, I love PB too because it is already making waves everywhere and it seems it is dominating Buzhay and I won´t allow that. Lol
