Life can be very unfair and also beautiful at times, i envy the children who are born with silver spoons in their mouth and they also are the ones who squander every little penny they have while we the middle class are left to work and gnash our teeth before we can survive, but i wake up and thank God for giving me to this family...
My parents has gone through a lot in their life and making them live a carefree life is my goal and i don't care if it's a menial job or a high paying job, as long as the job requires hard work and honesty, i will always do it and also make my livelihood off it...
The goal of working and earning is to make ends meet, most of us have been compelled to do any job just to make a living out of it because we don't have a choice of selecting a higher paying job with our level of education and our qualification...
In the last 2 years, i have done four different jobs while earning so little but what helped me then was that i never had much expenses and i was still living off my parents but those set of job are draining to the core...
To make ends meet and to support my family, i have done 4 jobs in the last two years and they include:
- A TEACHER
- A LOAN COLLECTOR
- A SALES BOY
- A STORE KEEPER/ LABOURER...
In the list of jobs that i have done over the years, i am going to highlight that particular job that makes me happy and also the one that has been my worst nightmare, in short my best job and my worst job...
You have to brace yourself up for the next upcoming paragraphs as i am going to take you on this short journey while taking on a bumpy and sloppy ride...
MY BEST JOB: A LOAN COLLECTOR...
The life of a LOAN COLLECTOR started april 2021 where i had to leave my teaching job to get a better paying job with less working hours, i started working immediately school vacated second term and the following week was me resuming at my new work office where i had a table of my own...
The work requires me resuming 8:00 am everyday, i have to be in the office from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm and in between these 6 hours, i have this task to do and they include:
- Attending to new and customers who have come to repay their loan and collect new loan...
- I have to register new customers and add them to our online platform and book them up for new loan while feeling every bits of their information online...
- I have to go to the bank everyday to withdraw a large amount of money to be disbursed to both new and existing customers...
- I have to make account of incoming payment and outgoing transactions to balance up the day's work...
- And lastly i have to take the remaining amount of money and the incoming payment to the bank to be deposited ...
Those are my daily tasks and after all this listed above, from 2pm, we go out to recover daily loans from different organizations until about 5pm and then we meet our boss to remit the total collection of the day and we go home after all that...
We observe all holidays given to banks as we work along side with the bank, so any public holiday given to banks will be observed by us...
POSITIVE EFFECT OF BEING A LOAN COLLECTOR...
As we deal with giving loans to market women, bikers, drivers and herbs seller, life has been very easy for me on various occasions and those benefits include:
The possibility of boarding my customers vehicle or bike is high and every time they carry me to my destination, i don't have to pay the transport fare..
Before i get sick, i am always been offered herbs to get rid of the sickness and all with no payment involved...
I get to buy some goods at a lower price because of our business with market women..
Food everywhere as we also give loan to food sellers, i get special treatment than others...
I make money everyday at least the sum of #200 because some new customers gives us some change based on how i attend to them
even with all this benefits, i do my work with utmost sincerity and seriousness..
Working in a loan collector company has improved my IQ greatly, my calculation speed is very fast, my physical counting of money is accurate and most importantly, my boss carries me along on how he started with nothing but his honesty and integrity made investors invest in his company and that is how he has been succeeding..
He made me understand that patience is the best virtue all accompanied with hardwork and prayer, working with him has affected my thinking faculty on how to handle small scale businesses...
MY WORST JOB: A STORE AND WAREHOUSE KEEPER...
Ohhh don't be carried away by the name i gave to it, i had to tush it up a bit to be able to tell my friends the nature of my job but in the harsh reality, i am nothing more than a LABORER...
I started this work after i worked as a sales boy in a small retail store and guess what??
i saw hell and came back, the nature of the job was killing, i never understood the work when my friend was explaining to me and i was desperately in need of a god paying job and its a 6 hours per day job...
I resumed the work and guess the tasks i was assigned to do:
Everyday a truck comes in with at least 150 bags of raw golden penny sugar and at most 600 bags , we are 4 in my shift and we four offload if the sugar is 150 or 200 bags but we hire other guys when it is over that...
We supply the production factory with whatever they need daily while moving from one location to another....
We are always on stand by incase there is any arrival of new products, we supply different sections everyday with what they need and at the end of the day we have to seek permission before going home....
We are responsible for loading finished icing sugar into different trucks , at least 1000 pieces of 1kg, 500 pieces of 500g and 4*5kg and so on, almost everyday we make this supplies and deliveries while loading them in trucks..
This work affected me greatly, it has more disadvantages compared to its advantages. It weakened my health physically and mentally, i have been spending much on drugs rather than feeding, it is a blood sucking job but it pay was okay then that it enticed me...
The job gave me unhealthy fitness, my arm is as big and heavy as a rock because of daily loading and carrying of raw sugar, i have fallen sick on different occasions that i won't even suggest that kind of job offer to my enemy...
The work has deprived me of many activities like going to church, attending to my daily chores, those 6 working hours are like 24 hours of working that at the end of the work, i go home, freshen up, eat and use body pains relieve and jump in bed and before you know it, sleeeepppp....
The work really took more from me than giving to me, it became my worst nightmare after several sickness and unnecessary building in my arms and not in my chest, all my short sleeves don't really fit because of my muscle...
In summary, you can see the difference between the two jobs highlighted above and how they have been more disadvantage than advantage in my worst job..
In conclusion, thanks to hive for the great support that now i have to do more of online job than my offline job and managing both has been great so far, i wouldn't recommend my enemy for my worst job because it is a BLOOD SUCKING BUG...
