I just traveled back in time for some seconds because of the topic of this edition two prompt, it reminded me of both civic education and government my two favorite subjects in high school, I remember clearly that we were taught topics like freedom and rights in civic education back in high school, so seeing this topic now I was forced to miss my high school days hehe, enough of all this reminisce...
Exercising my rights when the need arises is one of the things I have been practicing by myself for many years now and that is because in my country rights of our citizens are trampled on like we are not humans. For this reason, I have been teaching myself how to utilize my rights when the need arises without the fear of being punished or criticized...
I believe we are in a free world and for this reason, I strongly believe we have the freedom and liberty to do as we please since we are in our Father's land and in as much as our freedom doesn't cost our fellow humans harm in any way...
This is what I believe in as a citizen but in this country the freedom we have as a citizen is limited which to me is both a good and bad thing because of the lawbreakers we have in this country, on the other hand, there are restrictions to the freedom we have and one of it is the freedom of speech...
One of the rights/freedom we have as a citizen of this country is the the freedom of speech and freedom of movement, there are cases where these freedoms of ours have been restricted for many reasons, in some cases exercising this freedom wrongly has led some people into trouble and that is why I am always in support of voicing out a bit and not out of hand but some people don't know when to stop and for this reason, they get punished...
In as much as I am in strong support of having unrestricted freedom, I also believe there are times when there should be a little bit of restriction on this freedom and that's because of those who don't know when they are going overboard, they tend to misuse and abuse all these freedoms when it gets into their head...
One thing I know about humans is that when there is too much freedom given to people, they tend to either take it for granted or misuse it when one least expect it which can be quite annoying, the fact is just that some people tend to get out of hand when they have too much of this freedom...
Having the freedom to do anything we want is okay by me but there are times when restrictions are needed to avoid further damage...
Without wasting too much time on my introduction to the topic, I will be sharing some points on the likely effects of too much freedom given to people...
MISUSING/ABUSING OF FREEDOM TENDS TO HAPPEN...
One beautiful fact about life is that nobody is perfect which means everyone is prone to make mistakes which is considered to be something normal...
This is based on a true life story and also from both my experiences and observations over the years, when you give people too much freedom, it tends to come back in one way or the other to hunt you and that is because some people don't see it as something wrong or going overboard, they only see it as something normal but on the other hand, it is very very wrong and considered going overboard...
Let me quickly share a story with you all regarding this topic, years ago when my brother was still a fresher in university, after three weeks of his resumption he got a roommate, and as expected of everyone roommates are supposed to be friends and close to an extent...
One thing led to the other and they started talking and they became close to an extent, after some months his so-called friend was now someone who has some other friends and by this time he had started inviting some of his friends to the house, my brother didn't complain neither did he stop him from bringing his friends home but one day the worst happened which led him and my brother to have a small misunderstanding...
One day my brother said he came back from the short break they had and since his roommate stayed far away from school he couldn't go home for the short holiday which made him stay over for the holiday...
After one week my brother came back to school only to find out almost all his foodstuffs and provisions had finished, he left about 8 derikas of rice and beans in the house before going, he had milo and milk left in his wardrobe and about 12 eggs, he got back to school and found out everything has finished...
My brother didn't say anything but he was furious at first to be honest but he felt like it is normal and also he thought he ate it alone, after some days he found out from some of his friends who also stayed in school that his roommate invited all his friends over to the house and cooked for them daily while some of them left with some his provisions to their respective hostels...
He got infuriated when he heard this and went to confront his friend and that was how it led to disagreement and setting of boundaries which is what is expected of anyone in my brother's shoes...
In summary, this is a very good example of misusing and abusing the freedom given to you, before God and man my brother asked him to use his stuff in his absence and not to do a giveaway with it but he abused that freedom and relationship by doing a giveaway with something that is not his and that too without the owner's permission...
In conclusion, I felt like if my brother had given him less freedom than he had given him then all this would have never happened in the first place but because he gave that much freedom to him, he felt like he could do as he wanted and pleases and that is to tell you that people will never miss the opportunity to abuse/misuse the freedom given to them when there is an opening for it, we just need to lay some restrictions/boundaries along the way to keep them in check...
