For This weeks featured content #hive-learner is asking:
Tell us about your personal growth as a person. Comparing yourself today with how you were five to ten years ago. How far have you come? What are the steps you took to ensure your growth? Someone might learn from your story
my mom and babies 2020 vs 2years later
The one thing that remains consistent in life is growth. It’s always so surreal to me every time I take a look at my babies, I mean my nieces and nephews. I have a whole bunch of them, Nine, and I know the exact date and time they were all born, I bathed, cradled, and fed most of them from when there were barely weeks old and months old.
Everytime I see new clips of them or pictures of them I am amazed, they grow so fast, I would always say, my little niece can now even exchange words with me and she is seven, I just take one look at her and all I can see is the baby I changed her diapers a few nights back, the baby I woke up 3am to feed, the baby I would strap to my back with wrapper as I did work around the house, I would just smile and shake my head.
Growth is really something we all go through as humans, even non-living things and animals grow daily. I remember the mango tree my elder brother planted years ago, it grew and grew into a big fruitful tree, from just a mango seed. It is amazing you will agree with me.
We not only experience bodily growth, or increase in size and height, but as humans there are other aspects of our lives we grow too, from not knowing how to write as a child, to now being able to read and write and speak and walk and talk and sit for exams and graduate from school, every single aspect of life experiences growth.
Five years ago, I was a very young girl in my early twenties, I had just started my Buisnesses and was striving to make a brand for myself. Leaving school I told myself I wasn’t going to depend on anyone for money, yes I was a comfortable child all through my university days, my siblings spoilt me silly, I always had money, as the last child now, they did not want their baby sister to suffer. But I said to myself, I would not be that baby sister that would be a liability to my family after leaving school, and right there and then in my final days in the university I began my ushering agency.
With support and referrals from family and friends, I began to grow. I remember when I would take just about any price your tell me, I wasn’t even too much into the money as I was eager to keep getting jobs and gaining publicity. I wanted people to know the brand name Reineesmay.
Then I did not have enough resources to make my own uniforms and the money gotten from the jobs I used to maintain my immediate needs and save.
All I knew was that I wasn’t about to keep calling my siblings for money after school and to a large extent I achieved that.

Today, my brand has over 15 usher uniforms, I not only run one but three businesses in the city where I live, it’s nothing so big and glamorous yet, but when you think event management today in my city Warri, you would definitely hear the name Reineesmay and it’s one thing growth I am super proud of.
This is just the buisness growth aspect of my life, am sure the Rookie of five years ago wouldn’t believe that she is a married woman now. I always wondered then how hard it might be for me to settle down or get a man because my standards as a young girl were too high and I feared I was too well spoken and intimidatingly confident for guys. But here I am today, five years later.
Did I really have deliberate steps I took to ensure my growth? I wouldn’t be too confident to say yes, and that’s me being totally honest.
I can say for sure that I am naturally an ambitious person but very realistic, I set my goals at levels I know I can achieve and I keep setting them till I get to the top, which I haven’t gotten to yet so am still in the process.
my first job 2017
I would say knowing what you want for yourself is the first step, and then the next step is actually taking a step, any step, towards your goal.
I remember when I wanted to start my parfait buisness, I didn’t have much capital and I did not want to ask for help from anyone, I just got back from Nysc so I used the little savings I had left to start up, as time went on, the little money began to multiply itself, and profit met more profit and more profit till I began to gain double the amount I used to start up.
2020
I would say for me DRIVE, CONSISTENCY, and TENACITY, aided/still aids my growth,
I take one look at my lives journey and I am super grateful for how far I have come, and if you ask me where I would be in another five years, it would definitely be with my family, living, loving and being the best wife, mom and business woman I can be.
