Sometimes I think how ironic it is that a set of individuals sit down to decide on everyone's behalf or are tasked with deciding what we can do and what we cannot do, dictating what is legal and what is not, how we are allowed to live our lives and the task of setting rules and regulations to which everyone must obey. We find ourselves with these rules, and I often wonder how these laws were instituted and the premise on which these laws are based. Were these laws made with the intention for the good of the many or the benefit of the few?
As humans, our organs come in pairs, and as such, one can survive with one and should be able to trade one for any value if they so desire. The problem is that people aren’t allowed to trade parts of their body or some organ they have that they feel they can survive without. Some people may leave their whole lives wasting what may, in one way or another other serve as a means of survival for them.
What happens with my body should be my decision and not the decision of some governmental bodies that not only are they ripping me off good life, they are tampering with my freedom, the choice of whether I am willing to sell some part of my body for value should be my decision and should not be frowned upon. It is okay for a person to donate or give freely part of his body, but it is not okay for it to be traded for value.
The rise of the black market for human organs has been rising, which can be directly attributed to the fact that the sale of these human parts is illegal, and people hide to transact in this market. Governments all over the globe have made the trade of human organs illegal, and as a result, people seem to hide to trade.
As much as I will love to oppose this decision of the government in making it illegal for people to trade body organs, I am afraid I will have to stand with the government on this policy or regulations. The buying and selling of human organs is detrimental to human existence. Desperate people will go to great lengths to steal the organs of others. There is also a serious risk involved for the seller of these organs; sometimes, the seller’s second organ may fail after the sale and this will put the seller in the position of looking for another organ, the risk in these procedures is usually very high and may require thorough and informed consent before the person selling makes their decision which must be a conscious decision and with the full information of knowing what will happen afterwards.
There are a lot of factors why the government think it is a bad idea to have a market where human organs are bought and sold. While I agree that a person should have a say on what happens with his or her body, there is a legitimate reason why the human organ market is a terrible idea.
