The phone is a strong distraction, distracting us from people close to us and connecting us to the distant world, imaging talking to a friend or a family member and you discover that their attention is more in what they are doing with their phone then what you are saying or doing with them, you are all focused on them but they in return are glued to their phones instead of returning the same focus you are putting into your meeting or sitting. I have had my share of that, and each time that happens, I take the other person's phone from them so that they can give me a proper listening ear or their presence.
My home, my rules, will be the motto of my house, I have understood the negative effects of the phone, while the phone is a very good tools that assist and makes our living easier, it has also being a poison in many ways, people these days are addicted to their phones, unable to stay for a long period in a stretch without using their phones, is either they are on this social media or the other, doing mostly things that are not profitable to their living, some people don’t even know how to put their phones into good use, instead they just scroll through the social media to find things that amuse them or just waste their precious time.
Being a person who hates this dependence on these devices, I will have strict rules on the use of phones in my house. The phone will have a partial ban in my household, with each member strictly adhering to the policies I set for its usage. This will be done to curb addiction and excessive reliance on mobile phones, and in the process, allow families to spend more time together, engaging in conversations rather than long phone conversations that can lead to forgetting those close to us.
The phones are not welcome at the dining table or at any family gathering; all phones will be confiscated and kept in a place until the hours of the gathering are over, before they are returned. It will be a tradition for everyone to submit their device at the beginning of every gathering, be it a family dinner or the family together time. Before doing all of these, I will discuss with the members the reason behind my action and ensure they are okay with it before proceeding, and as such, I will not be trespassing or infringing on their rights as humans.
It is a pity what the phones have done to us as humans, my experience with phone addiction was when I was a 100-level student at the university, I was so addicted to my phone that I will go to the class to read but I will end up playing with my phone and in the end, will not open my books to study before heading back to my lodge. This happened for the whole period of my first semester during my first year in school, and the result was that my first-ever result was the poorest I have ever had in school to date.
The phone has been one of the best innovations of my time, it has made life easier and communication just a dial away, but as much as it has helped us, it also posses the treat of addiction and as such may affect the performance of some, when there is a set limitation and a certain ban to how your household is allowed the use of phone, it will bring about better productivity and use of time, family member will become closer and the addiction will be at a minimal.
