I came across a tweet by Elon Musk recently: "Whoever said 'money can't buy happiness' really knew what they were talking about.” And a response from Mark Cuban: "If you were happy when you were poor, you will be insanely happy if you get rich. If you were miserable, you would stay miserable, just with a lot less financial stress."
The idea that having money brings happiness is not always true. One could amass a huge amount of wealth and remain miserable, but being happy sometimes sparks from being content with what a person has. When a person is very wealthy and still feels like they are not as wealthy as they want to be, that person may remain unhappy.
It is right to say that money answers all things, but sometimes the love of money may bring one to their destruction. Having money to meet your needs may feel okay at a time, but it doesn’t guarantee that one will remain happy because they are wealthy. The statement that money brings happiness can mostly be attributed to the poor; the rich may not see it that way.
Evidence of it is the tweet from Elon Musk and that of Mark Cuban. In Elon’s view, extreme wealth comes with a lot of pressure, stress, public scrutiny and a feeling of being alone. It will be hard to really know if people truly like you or if they like you because of your wealth. On the other hand, Mark suggests that money is only an amplifier of happiness and not a cure for sadness; happiness is internal and is not a reflection of an external factor, though money can remove the stress of bills and every little need and want that money can solve, it does not guarantee one's happiness.
For one to live a happy life, one must understand that the chase of money is never-ending, and something like this cannot guarantee one's happiness. Money is there to solve problems and to meet the needs of individuals. Money is not a tool or an instrument that creates happiness; the lack of money doesn’t bring sadness and sorrow. What brings sadness and sorrow sometimes is the inability to meet one's pressing needs. If what is making me sad, for instance, is food, and by getting what to eat without having money, the feeling of being sad may go away. Money makes the world go round, as they say, but before money, there was the existence of happiness.
We find many people who have amassed a lot of money for themselves, and they remain unhappy. We have seen a lot of them being suicidal, even when they have so much money that their generations to come will not finish. The main thing which I will not get tired of saying that could make one happy is being content with what you have.
Money amplifies the happiness of individuals.
Money is not the main source of people, as said earlier, a poor, sad person will remain sad even when he becomes rich, a rich person can still be sorrowful at any time of the day. It is not having money that is the key to happiness.
