The topic about freedom of speech isn't one that we will finish talking about it, especially in a country like mine Nigeria, where freedom of speech is rarely practiced. Everywhere we go there is always people in the highest position who is trying to rub it to our face, trying to make sure that we understand that they are the boss of us and if we are to say something that they do not like, they can easily deal with us.
A good example of this is at our place of work were we could easily be arrested by our bosses if we say something in a manner or tone that he or she doesn't like. Of course, if this were to be in a country were there is good law and order and the boss calls the police to arrest someone who hasn't done anything wrong but had only exercise his freedom of speech, the employee wouldn't be arrested and the boss could get reprimanded by the cops.
Unfortunately, the police who are supposed to be the ones fighting for the people, are also part of the system that prevents us from exercising our freedom of speech. There had been cases where citizens have been arrested because of the things they have said about some corrupt cops online, of course, they make this arrest secretly but even when it does comes out to the public it makes no difference because the government ends up doing nothing about it and this is because the government themselves are guilty of this same crime.
So freedom of speech might be a thing in a more civilized country with less corruption but in a country like Nigeria it almost as if we the citizen are living in a country of crime. I pray God helps us and we get a better government who will fix things or better still, I travel to a country with good governance that actually cares about its citizens and what they have to say.
