Hi! Have you ever enjoy a marriage ceremony in village? Two years ago one of my cousin Hasan got married and I attended. It was very funny and enjoyable. In Bangladesh a marriage ceremony is a very awaiting festival for all especially for the villagers. It represent the Bengali culture.

The marriage ceremony has main two parts. One is Gae Holud means Turmeric paste on face for bride and groom. It is the the day before the wedding. This occasion is mostly favourite for the teenager girls and children. They wear yellow sharee and white or yellow blouse. Boys wear yellow punjabi and white pajama. Generally Turmeric Ceremony held at evening.
The young boys and girls with sweets, fruits and other decorated food items seat with bride or groom and feed him/her and applying some turmeric paste on his/her face. Sometimes they manage for singing and dancing by hiring dance group. They play music very loudly. Sometimes they decorate whole house with colourful lights. On the next day the grooms party go to the brides occasion to complete the main part of marriage. As a muslim marriage there is a kazi who complete registration and other Islamic duties of the marriage between bride and groom.

After that they enjoy special food items cooked for guests by special bawarchi, the cooker. Guests come with gift items or cash money as a gift. There is some persons seat and write down the list of the gift and gift-giver. It is an old tradition of Bangladesh.
The conservative Islamic families never arrange Turmeric ceremony and dance party. They simply complete the function and invite relatives and friends for launch or dinner in their house or community centre. Nonconservative muslims and the people of other religion mostly follow these wedding culture in Bangladesh I described. If you come in Bangladesh I hope you will also be invited by someone and can enjoy this traditional function.
