A Reflection on My Best New Year Celebration
When I reflect on my best New Year celebration which happened about 5 years ago, it was undoubtedly 2018. The energy around the city was electric, thrilling and it felt like anything was possible that year. I found myself dancing in the streets with strangers and making new friends who would soon become some of my dearest lifelong companions.
The night of the first day of January marked a new decade – one that I were determined to make full of hope and dreams. The fireworks lit up the night sky as if we were saying goodbye to our old selves and hello to new beginnings.
I can’t help but to smile at all the possibilities ahead of us. No matter what had past, that night gave me hope for brighter days ahead, which is something I still carry with me today.
Celebratory Feasts and Music
I was greeted by a spread of delicious foods, part of the many traditional delicacies that are served when celebrating a new year. From, jollof rice, fried rice, yam porridge to fufu and sauces cooked with a variety of meats. There was also the classic suya, or grilled beef skewers, and all the mandatory accompaniments like plantain chips and peppered snails.
The mood had been set for hours before the meal, with blaring afrobeats from my neighbor’s speakers insinuating its way through my walls. Everyone had come out to greet their neighbors and friends. It felt as though everyone that I had ever once crossed paths with had come to my door. The energy was contagious, which made it the best new year I’ve ever celebrated!
The Aftermath of the Celebration
After all the cheering, clapping, and wishes were done, it felt like I was wading through a small sea of hugs and kisses. It was magical! My cheeks hurt from all the smiles I gave away, my feet were sore from all the skipping I did down the street, and my arms ached from all the high-fiving.
What a way to start! As I look back on that night, it wasn't just about having a good time or seeing old friends—it was about feeling connected to something bigger than myself. Despite our differences, we had come together as a community and celebrated something that united us: hope for a better future.
This year new year celebration was almost as good as the 2018 but there was something about 2018 that made it amazingly unforgetable and the best so far. It was an indescribably thrilling experience, one that has been engraved in my memory almost never to be displaced, what an amazing year.
Conclusion
All in all, I have to say that this has been the best New Year celebration that I have ever had. I have had a lot of fun and I have enjoyed every minute of it. I hope that you have had a great New Year celebration as well, and that you have enjoyed it to the fullest. Have a fulfilling year
