Greetings!
One thing about the public knowing about our earnings is that it's against the right to personal privacy as people would come to know what one is earning which might not be good enough. Publicizing one's earnings to me is a violation of the privacy of the person earning the salary which may equally put the person in question in danger.
Having said so much about the effect of salary publication, I would like to delve into the topic of the prompt which is about, “Making our salaries known to the public.”
To me, this particular idea of making people's earning known to the public is not the best of idea for me as everyone knows how they are packaging themselves, some with the meagre they are collecting knows how the carry themselves in the society so that people would not be looking down on them and as for others, they know how they pretend not to be earning as much as they are earning so that they would not be a centre of attraction to the public who if they not may be billing them anyhow.
So, making the public know what people or others are earning is a way to jeopardize the financial secrets of people in the society which should be made known to them and them alone.
The issue of finances, especially when it comes to salary is not something that should be publicized and this is for the known reasons which could undermine the security of the salary earners in the public space.
For instance, if someone is collecting a huge amount of money as salary, the life of the person might be under threat if the said amount he's collecting is made known to the public as he or she might be under attack from any angle. So, for this to be prevented as prevention is better than cure, salary earned must be made personal and confidential to the person working and earning it.
Aside from this. If someone who is collecting less amount as salary is being advertised to the society with what he or she is earning as salary, such a person might be feeling inferior in the society whereby he or she loses his or her identity in the society.
Also, there might be this kind of rivalry among those working in the same organisation or company as one thing is sure and certain, people don't earn the same amount in the same company. Now if the pay is now leaked to the public, there would definitely be envy among the workers which if not properly managed can affect the company and their output.
Although, the purpose at which the publication of people's salary is recommended is good so as to curb the excesses of people who would spend more than what they earn in the society, but even at that we should not forget those who work hard and legally to earn their hard earned salary.
