Hello beautiful people of Hive, it's great to have you on my blog 🤗🤗
For this edition of the engagement prompt given by the Hive Learners Community, I'll be talking about something very interesting.
It may interest you to know that though I'm not a Lawyer but I have been involved in the Judicial system 😌😌
Having a Dad who is a Barrister comes with the privilege of going to Court for cases anytime.
I once heard someone say he sister believe in the Judicial System of my country, Nigeria anymore because of the level of corruption that has seeped into the system. Although this may be true but what can we do but to help the system by raising honourable Lawyers through the schools and living honest and reputable lives ourselves.
There were times when my Dad refused to take bribes even when he was on the verge of winning the case but the opposing party didn't want to leave empty. It all boils down to the level of training the Lawyer or the Judge in question has been exposed to that'll determine how they render justice in Court.
My Experiences in the Courtroom

I have had wonderful experiences going to court with my Dad probably because I ate all that passed on the road, slept through the court session cause I found it a little boring before eating more on my way back but this was when I was much younger.
The first time I watched my Dad defend in court, I was so scared because he was very brutal and wasn't taking any nonsense from the opposing party but as I grew older, I understood that he was fighting for the rights of his clients who had lost properties, lives, self dignity and saw him as the only solution to their problems.
On one particular day, we went outside the state for a case involving first degree murder.
I saw as the prisoners were chained hand and foot, conveyed from the prison to the court premises in a big metal van having a very little window..
Tears flowed from my eyes as I watched as these men were treated and to think that not all of them was guilty of the crime they were accused of.
The court session begun with the entering in of the Judge ad everyone stood up and the cases were called.
It came to my Dad's turn after hearing several Lawyers plead the case of their clients.
He walked out of his chair, invited some witnesses to the witness stand before inviting the accused.
Their Struggles Are Real

I felt like I was watching a movie and was eagerly waiting for my Dad's client to be acquitted and rendered not guilty but the case was adjourned to the following week.
After the session, he met with his clients, relatives of the accused and they spoke with him, looking very sad but he reassured them that it will be settled.
Shortly after that, we headed home.
As all these were on, I just taught to myself that while we are living our daily lives happily, there are those living in torment, at the mercy of a Judge somewhere not knowing when they will taste freedom again.
It also moved me to prayer for prisoners and those who have been wrongfully accused that the Lord will deliver them out of trouble and I encourage you to do same too.
Till next time...
