Pollution
What are the major causes of pollution in your area? Are they vehicles, industries, or just humans? Suggest ways in which this can be rectified.
Thank you Hive-Learners for this timely prompt. It's always my pleasure to be part of these featured contests.
- The health and well-being of my environment and the people in it has always been of great importance to me and I usually take several actions to improve or sustain the health of the same .
Our environment and the world largely has been engaged in a long war with Pollution in all its various forms. It has been a threat to public health as much as an eye and nosesore and therefore an issue that has to be dealt with.
Pollution is the introduction of damaging or injurious substances to land- Land pollution, water beds- Water Pollution, the air - Air pollution or disturbing environmental serenity with disruptive levels of noise or light- Noise pollution
In my city, the major cause of the parasite of pollution is Illegal Crude oil operations by individuals which is field by greed and selfishness. In turn it affects the air, land and water bodies. Communities and health have also been greatly affected by this.
In order to make ends meet, some individuals engage in illegal oil refining and bunkering. We call it "pofire".
The crudeoil is illegally extracted from the pipelines by boring a hole in it and siphoning it. It is then boiled in a bush and stored inside huge plastic containers and conveyed in a ship - mostly a local boat
The Unwholesome Effects
This has an immediate effect on the environment.
Firstly, the production of black soot - a black flaky substance formed from the incomplete combustion of carbon. When this substance diffuses into the air, it contaminates it making it unsafe for breathing because of its carbon monoxide content. When this air is inhaled, it can cause lung infections and several respiratory disorders.
- This process leads to the spillage of oil into the rivers thereby making it unsafe for drinking and destruction of aquatic life ad harmful carbonic compounds are displaced into them.
Also, it also renders the communities in which these acts are carried out inhabitable due to the how the terrain of the land is destroyed.
- Security agents set ablaze tankers caught with these stolen petroleum products instead of simply taking the crude oil to the refineries and oil companies just so they appear "good" in the eyes of their superiors. This is so appauling.
Can we stop it?
SOURCE
Emphatically Yes and how?
For this to be curbed, the general public should be educated on the dangers of illegal Crude oil bunkering.
Furthermore, it has to be stopped or reduced to the barest minimum in order for the sustainance of lives and the environment. The government should do well to provide jobs for these individuals so they can fend for themselves.
Seized Crude oil tankers should be taken to the oil companies like I earlier said to avoid the risk of increasing contamination of our rivers , land and air.
To Conclude, what world would we want our children to live in? We should not be so overcome with greed and selfishness that we indirectly take away the chances our young ones have to good health and well-being, thinking that we are working to put food on our tables.
The future is now and is in our hands, let's preserve it.
I'd like to use this special opportunity to invite my friends to the contest.
