Visiting the Hospital, either as a patient or a visitor was the least thing that I want to do. Because if it's not me, it would mean that someone important to me was in pain so the idea itself was something that I want to avoid as much as possible. But life does not care what I want and throw away this challenges to me.
Just with the recent months I have gone to visit the hospital a couple of times when my grandma got admitted to the hospital and my sister after only a couple of weeks. My grandma ended up spending her last days on the hospital due to her age so it was understandable to there is very few things that doctors can do to prolong her life. Yes, my grandma that I wrote in this Post that just few months ago was still very lively and can still hold a conversation. It was a great loss for our family but it is something that will come sooner on later. What we did not expect was that only a few weeks after this, my sister would also be hospitalized and it was not just a simple sickness but a life threatening condition. Thankfully, she survived and I was really grateful to the medical professionals for the job they done.
It was on the first week of July, after arriving home from work, I saw my sister lying on the Sala's couch with a pained look on her face due to immense abdominal pain. She said that she started the pain during noon and despite despite drinking medicines, the pain was just getting worst over time to the point that she cannot stand and call for help anymore so right away, we bring her to the same hospital where we bring my grandma so the staff at the reception still remember us so they were able to quickly tend to my sister where they told us that apparently, my sister was 7 weeks pregnant. This should be a good new for us to only learned that the egg has developed outside of the uterus and if we let it to grow more, it will endanger the life of my sister so she have no choice but to undergone the operation to remove the egg.
While we once again lost a part of our family, I was still something I still was grateful because they were able to save the life of my sister to almost complete recovery though she still needs to recuperate and drink medicines. If you watch U.S. news there were many states that have heavy regulations for abortion despite their condition and some of those cases leads to the death of the mother or leave them with permanent damage. So even with their top notch technology and medical practices, there was a high chance that they might not be able to perform the operation on my sister due to those heavy regulations. For that reason, I would say that this was a pros for my country's healthcare system that I should be impressed and thankful to have. Another thing that I should be impressed about was that they do not required us to pay for both my grandma and my sister until we left the hospital and that we were able to reduce our expenses as they were accepting healthcare insurance in order to reduce the financial burden for me and my family.
If you think that it was the end of it, you were wrong. It was the sister of my sister's partner who got hospitalized so I do not need to go to the hospital this time. a tumor has been growing on her neck that is deemed to be cancerous and was needed to undergo a surgery. The problem was that when she was brought to the same hospital were we admit my sister, she was rejected saying that the hospital does not have the facilities and the appropriate doctor to perform the operation to her and was advised to go outside the province, on a much bigger hospital in order for her to be treated. Eventually, she was operated and her life was saved though she were still need to rest in the hospital but this reveals a major flaw on our healthcare system.
The lack of medical professional in specialized fields and facilities to use was a big cons. Some disease are a battle against time so as possible, what we want for the hospitals that were close to us was that they have available medical professionals on different field of specialties and appropriate facilities in order to increase the chance of survival of the patient. Our province right now was what you can consider highly urbanized, meaning the population keeps on increasing and area has been undergoing huge infrastructural development but still, we do not have enough medical professionals for certain type of disease so just imagine what was the situation over other provinces that does not undergone as much development like us.
That was all for me. Thank you and see you at the next one.
