Comedy is a form of art that uses dialogue or actions with the goal of making people laugh and with the world we live right now that was facing a lot of problems, comedy is one of the things that has allowed us to temporarily forget our problems and replaced it with happy thoughts. There are lots of comedian that I watch and listen to both locally and internationally so it's hard to just pick one, I'll go with one of the classics and choose the comedian Rowan Atkinson.
For those who do not know, Rowan Atkinson is an English actor and the artist behind the tv show "Mr. Bean" which had it's run from 1990- 1995 with 15 episodes which tells the daily life of this man known as Mr. Bean who was a childish buffoon that will make various unusual schemes on people and on every day task which ended up being hilarious. Aside from the TV show, it also have 2 movies and has an animated series which have run for 5 series with a total of 130 episodes that he also voiced.
If I remember correctly, I first watched this show when I was only 8 years old and as a child, I do not understand English quite well as so I mostly stick on watching shows that speak my local language up until my mom has switched the channel where Mr. Bean was shown and although I cannot understand English that well, it does not became a problem for me because the show has very few lines and it was entirely from the actions of the character in the show that was able to made me laugh. Ever since then I always switched to that channel and would watch the show every time and even when the show keeps on being repeated, I just won't get tired watching it and even now, I still occasionally watch it on Youtube and would still get a good laugh.
What I Like About This Comedian
Most of the comedy skit nowadays includes a lot of lines to that will eventually lead up to that funny pick- up line and some also include actions to make the jokes more clear but how often would you see a comedy show that majority of the time the characters do not speak and still make you laugh? That is how good Rowan Atkinson is on his portrayal as Mr. Bean and if you say that it might be because they have good writers, he also co- write the script, showing that he was not only a good comedian but also a good writer. Despite the show released almost 2 decades ago, it still holds on for being funny and I do not know if there were any actors or any shows that has and could pull this kind of entertainment using very few words. Also, the way that the show uses only few words makes it more accessible to people of different languages. I also notice that many comedians uses bad words and dirty jokes on their skits which makes it age inappropriate for children but Rowan Atkinson was able to make a comedy show that can be suitable for both adults and kids where even the animated series would also be watched by the adults.
Making people laugh is way harder than making people angry or sad so regardless of the comedian, all I have for them is respect because just like us this are also people that have their own problems and despite of that, they come to the stage to make people laugh.
