A nickname is an alternative name that is used to substitute for ones real name usually to make it shorter and easier to to say. There are also time where we share the same name with another person and we were given different nicknames to avoid confusion and make it easier to address which of the them we need to engage. As for the topic of this week's 3rd topic, was about ones nickname but before I go to that, I would first tell my name specially for those that have not read my introduction post. My real name was Jeffrey and it was a very common name from where I live and according to this Site, my name was at the 48 th rank in terms of mostly used names and although I'm not sure how accurate the data that was shown is as it does not provide the statistics that it used but I partly believe on what it says because almost everywhere I go, I meet someone that shares the same name like me which have resulted on me being called sometimes by my surname in but most of the times by other monikers depending on what type of environment I was.
Nickname at Home
I do not have a recollection of when I was called for this nicknames but in out house my family and relatives will call me Epi taken from effrey but removed the "ff and e" and replaced it with "p and i" while Jepoy on the other hand comes from "jeff and boy". At first you might ask why family uses 2 nicknames to call me and to answer that, its because those 2 nicknames have their own utility. Wherever my family was talking on another person about me, they used to address me with the nickname Jepoy and would act similar to a pronoun instead of using "he" while they call me Epi wherever they want me to run an errand so wherever they call me that, I tried my best to hide. 😂😂
Nickname at Neighborhood
On my neighborhood I was also referred by the same nicknames that my family and relatives call me but they have also came up with some nicknames for me. Many of my neighbors have come from the Visayan Region and because of their dialect, they often spoke words with "e" harder ("ee") so they instead called me Jipoy while some for some reason gets lazy and called me as Epoy which removes the "j" in the front but it's not like they are writing and have less the effort by removing one letter.
Nickname at School and Work
When it comes to school and work, the people around me has become a little sophisticated on what nickname they will call me. During my elementary, I have another person that shares the same name so they ended up calling me Jeff while the other one the other one has remained to be called Jeffrey because I lost on jack-en-poy but does not really bother me because it's shorter and easier to use and eventually became the nickname that I used even at college and work. On the other hand, the situation in high school was a little different with having 3 person that shares the same name and I ended up being called Jep-Jep because I was the tallest of the three and up until now, that was still how my high school classmates have referred to me.
How I Feel About my Nickname
To be real it feels really funny to me that people around me have come with different types of nicknames for me and I'm not really bothered by them aside from my nickname Epi as I know that there will be an incoming errand awaiting for me 😅😅. If calling me with this nicknames is what allowed them to have a better engagement on me better and its not done in a way that would disrespect me, then they are more welcome to use it and in a way, I can feel more connected to other people when they call me with this nicknames compared to my real one since as what I said above, there are lots of people that has the same name with me.
At the end of the day, what I think to be the most important was once character and personality because if a person has a bad personality, forget them giving you a good nickname, they will not even want you within their sight so always be kind and respect everyone.
And that was it for this post. The nicknames that were used to call me were neither sophisticated nor cool but I come to accept it as it was done to be closer to me and I hope that was also the same with everyone. Thank you and see you on my next post!
