When we have to depend on the public health system, I believe that the experience changes from country to country, because I don't really know how it works in first world places, like Europe or North America, but here in Brazil, depending on public health is always a big challenge. Not that there aren't moments of good surprises, but in general, the history is always one of a lot of suffering, delays and disrespectful treatment of patients.
Here in Brazil it is known as SUS (Single Health System) and even though it has supporters who defend it tooth and nail (generally people on the left) the reality, when seen without any political bias, is certainly much sadder than the propaganda that appears on television says that everything is wonderful. For me, it never worked very well and therefore, when people say that it is necessary to use the SUS, the looks are just of concern, because we already know that it will probably be painful.
To give you an idea, I live next to a health center, which is also known as “pier” and whenever I needed to use the services of this place, I only felt anger and disappointment. Listen to one time when my wife, who was still pregnant, started to bleed, we left in a hurry to go to this health center, about a 5-minute walk away, when we got there, the information given was that the system wasn't working to get the password and even then there was no doctor. A health center that doesn't have a doctor, that's a wonderful thing to hear when your wife is starting to have an “apparent” miscarriage, so the experience I went through was dramatically negative.

Over the years, several times when I needed to go to this health center, the information was always the same: there is no doctor, the system is down, it says medicine, there is no this, there is no that and then we realize that, in fact, there is no everything all the time. Another very annoying situation was at the time of Covid, when I was suspicious and needed to take the exam, as it was expensive to pay for the exam at a pharmacy or a private clinic, I went to this health center again. My God, I think I went in at around 2 pm and left around 8 pm and that wasn't even because I was waiting for the results of the exam, because the collection simply happened at around 6 pm, that is, I spent practically 4 hours listening the local nurse said that I needed to wait for the test to be done soon, if I left early, I would lose my place in line to take the test.
It's my friends, negative stories make up a movie trilogy, that's why when someone praises Brazil's public health system, I honestly can't remain silent and no matter how sinister it may be, I laugh or end up getting into the discussion pile. ideas and everything, but I can't really defend something that is so bad and painful and the people who use this system defend themselves to the death because of vile politicians. I think everyone deserves quality public health and certainly, health does not have a political side, it has a human side of being on the side of what is correct.
Not to be just negative, there were 2 times that we needed the SUS and it really worked. It's easy to remember because because it rarely works, when it works it stays in my mind (sorry for the joke), but once it was when my son, who has ADHD (attention deficit) and at the time we didn't know, we looked for psychologists at public network and, incredible as it may seem, we managed to get consultations with great professionals who gave us a quick diagnosis, thus creating the report that proved this situation.

Another moment was my father's surgery, which I even posted about, he needed to place a prosthesis between his hip and femur, if I'm not mistaken, the surgery is called total hip arthroplasty, so he did the entire process for single healthcare system and again it was a big surprise how everything worked, from the surgery to his recovery and the follow-up after everything, when he had already been discharged and gone home.
Anyway, here in Brazil it's complicated, the SUS sometimes works, sometimes it doesn't, but in general, from what I've been through and the news I see in the most diverse media, it's something painful for those who can't afford a health plan. or private clinics. I may have also been very unlucky the times I needed it (which were many), but perhaps the system really works in other states or places. In any case, my biggest wish is that the SUS, for those who need it, really improves, offering more quality and agility in the health of its users.

Quando temos que depender do sistema publico de saúde, acredito que a experiência muda de país para país, até porque não sei bem como funciona em lugares de primeiro mundo, como Europa ou América do Norte, mas aqui no Brasil, depender da saúde pública é sempre um grande desafio. Não que não exista momentos de surpresas boas, mas no geral, o histórico é sempre de muito sofrimento, demora e um tratamento desrespeitoso com os pacientes.
Aqui no Brasil é conhecido como SUS (Sistema único de saúde) e por mais que tenha simpatizantes que defendam com unhas e dentes (geralmente as pessoas de esquerda) a realidade, quando vista sem nenhum víeis politico, é com certeza bem mais triste do que a propaganda que passa na televisão falando ser tudo uma grande maravilha. Para mim, nunca funcionou muito bem e por isso, quando se fala que é necessário utilizar o SUS, os olhares são apenas de preocupação, porque já sabemos que será provavelmente sofrido.
Para se ter uma ideia, eu moro ao lado de um posto de saúde, que também é conhecido como “cais” e sempre que precisei de usar os serviços deste lugar, apenas passei raiva e decepção. Ouve uma vez em que minha esposa ainda gravida começou a ter sangramentos, nós saímos as pressas para ir para este posto de saúde, coisa de 5 minutos a pé, quando chegamos lá, a informação passada era que o sistema não estava funcionando para pegar senha e mesmo assim não havia medico. Um posto de saúde que não tem medico, isso é uma maravilha de se ouvir quando sua esposa está começando a ter um “aparente” aborto espontâneo, então a experiência que passei foi dramaticamente negativa.

Ao longo dos anos, várias vezes em que precisei ir neste posto de saúde, a informação era sempre a mesma: falta medico, sistema fora do ar, fala remédio, falta isso, falta aquilo e aí a gente percebe que, na verdade, falta tudo o tempo todo. Outra situação bem chata foi na época do Covid, no qual eu estava com a suspeita e precisei fazer o exame, como era caro pagar pelo exame em farmácia ou em uma clínica particular, fui novamente neste posto de saúde. Meu Deus, eu acho que entrei era umas 2 da tarde e saí de lá umas 8 da noite e isso nem foi por esperar resultado do exame, pois a coleta simplesmente aconteceu era umas 6 da tarde, ou seja, fiquei praticamente por 4 horas ouvindo a enfermeira do local falar que era preciso aguardar que o exame logo seria feito, caso eu saísse antes, perdia o lugar da fila para fazer o teste.
É meus amigos, as histórias negativas dão uma trilogia de cinema, por isso que quando alguém elogia o sistema publico de saúde do Brasil, eu sinceramente não consigo ficar calado e por mais sínico que seja, eu fico rindo ou acabo entrando na pilha de discutir ideias e tudo mais, mas, não consigo realmente defender algo que é tão ruim e sofrido e o próprio povo que utiliza desse sistema, defende até a morte por conta de víeis políticos. Acho que todos merecem uma saúde publica de qualidade e com certeza, saúde não tem lado politico, ela tem um lado humano de ficar do lado do correto.
Para não ficar apenas no negativo, houve 2 vezes que precisamos do SUS e ele realmente funcionou. É fácil lembrar até porque por ser raro ele funcionar, quando funcionar fica marcado na minha mente (desculpem a piada), mas uma vez foi quando meu filho, que têm TDAH (déficit de atenção) e na época não sabíamos, procuramos por psicólogos na rede pública e por incrível que parece, conseguimos consultas com ótimos profissionais que deram o diagnóstico rápido para nós, criando assim o laudo que comprovava essa situação.

Outro momento, foi a cirurgia do meu pai, que até cheguei a postar sobre isso, ele precisou colocar uma prótese entre o quadril e o fêmur, se não me engano a cirurgia se chama artroplastia total de quadril, então ele fez todo o processo pelo sistema único de saúde e novamente foi um grande surpresa como tudo funcionou, da cirurgia até a sua recuperação e o acompanhamento depois de tudo, quando já tinha recebido alta e ido para casa.
Enfim, aqui no Brasil é complicado, o SUS uma hora funciona, outra não, mas no geral pelo que passei e pelas notícias que vejo nos mais diversos meios de comunicação, é algo sofrido para quem não tem condições de pagar por um plano de saúde ou clinicas particulares. Posso também ter dado muito azar nas vezes que precisei (que foram muitas), mas talvez o sistema realmente funcione em outros estados ou lugares. De qualquer forma, o meu maior desejo é que o SUS, para aqueles tantos que precisam, realmente melhore, oferecendo mais qualidade e agilidade na questão de saúde de seus utilizadores.
