Nickname can be referred to as a familiar name or invented name that's given to someone and used instead of the actual name.
Sometimes when one is being given a nickname, it's usually being used more often to the extent that people might not remember your actual name again.
Anyways there are good and bad nicknames, a good nickname in the sense that you also love the name given to you probably because it's a sweet to the ears, or a bad nickname whereby you detest the name you're given, this happens when it's an ugly name, a name that you don't even want to hear people call you, and you don't even want people to know you bear that name.
I could remember in my secondary schools days hmm alot happened then, I roll with the trouble makers even though I'm a gentle guy but my friends always put me in trouble, funny enough I couldn't leave them because i do enjoy their company. Moreso, we've been together right from our year one.
Just like I said that my friends are trouble makers, and my class happens to be a very stubborn one at that (yellow class), we gave each other nicknames, it's a normal thing for us. The funny thing is the nickname can actually be formed or derived from anything, for instance maybe someone made a mistake while trying to pronounce an English word especially when teaching is going on, say a student wants to respond to the question of a particular teacher but unfortunately made a mistake while trying to pronounce a word or two, if the class finds the name funny, that student is in a big trouble lols, the wrongly pronounced word would be given to the person as a nickname. Believe me you can't do anything about it, even if you report to the head teacher, I repeat "we're very stubborn.**
What led to my own nickname...
I went to school one faithful day with a swollen face and red eyeballs like someone who just smoke some cigarettes even though I've not tried it before, what really caused it was that I went to a vigil a night before that morning but closed very late so I couldn't sleep well, this resulted to swollen face.
On getting to school, one of my classmate, a trouble maker of course shouted "this boy has smoked something, everyone beware of him". There was nothing I did not say to defend myself but it's not working, that kind of situation you just have to keep quiet and watch.
Unfortunately, that period a song was trending, titled Jogodo. it's a Yoruba word and can be interpreted in English as be high in terms of smoking some substance.
So my trouble maker classmate said this guy has jogodo, everyone laughed and before you know it, I was tagged that horrible name, I call it horrible because I don't like it at all, it's not even what I do or like doing, it's the opposite of who I am. I do tell him in particular to stop calling me that name but he wouldn't listen, I just have to let go moreover only few occasionally people call me the name after that day.
My other nickname is sholex and it's a name I gave myself, which was derived from my actual name Shola, I have to do another naming ceremony for myself when I needed a nickname to open some accounts like hive, Instagram and so on.
This two has been my nicknames, till date I still prefer to be called sholex but the first nickname is a no go area lols.
