Discrimination starts right inside our various families before spreading to the society.
Imagine when someone gives birth, the next question some people will ask is, "Is the child a male or female? I wonder which one is not a child, that's where discrimination starts. Some people believe if they've not given birth to a male child they've not had a child yet until they gave birth to one, this mentality is very wrong.
Moving forward, it also amaze me when tedious work want to be done and they call only men to do it but when it comes to sharing money, nobody cares about your gender if you're a male or female, what you'll hear is "the money will be shared equally." Are we trying to be fair here or what because I don't really understand.
Sometimes when my parent wants to send one of us on an errand late at night they won't mistakenly send my elder or younger sister it will definitely be me or my brothers, tell me what we guys have done wrong to deserve this.
I wonder if gender equality truly exist, I doubt it because it's glaring it's not working.
Maybe we should just accept the fact that the two gender are different and unique in their own ways. We're made differently and special to perform different functions.
Kudos to our lecturers back then in school that favours the ladies when it comes to awarding marks because they know we guys don't have anything to offer them, but when a lady goes to them for help, it's easier for her to get help, the only benefit they can get from us is money, so the ladies have upper hand.
Let me share one of my experience on gender discrimination, even though I've come across alot.
There was a particular time I applied for a teaching job in a private school, so after some time I was invited for interview, getting there I realized we were two, myself and one other lady.
During the interview process it was clear that I know much more than the lady both theory and practical, because we both did micro teaching and also because we applied for the post of a computer teacher, we were made to do some work on the system, I also performed better than this lady but to my greatest surprise the lady was given the job, the man that interviewed us said to me "we'll get back to you," but to the lady he told her to wait behind, that's a green light already right. I have a friend in that school, he was the one telling me that the lady was later given the job, He said I should not bother myself with the job because the man loves ladies when I told him we were two myself and a lady that did the interview.
Gender discrimination has been from ages past and might be forever because I don't see any sign that anything will change anytime soon.
Lastly, for me I think one of the ways to stop all forms of gender discrimination is to preach and orientate people as to why they don't need to discriminate.
