Day by day we see and hear so many things happening, one of which is a crime scene like a group of armed robbers attack someone/people, filling stations, banks, and other places but luckily for me have not for once witnessed that kind of scene and I don't wish to, lols because it's scary, I don't even want to imagine that situation. The stories I hear from people who witnessed it isn't a funny one at all, most of these people got seriously injured and some saw these armed robbers shooting someone in their presence. Some people are just bloody, cruel and devilish, they can do anything for money, but then even without seeing a robbery incident have come across another kind of crime scene that's somewhat bad.
I'm a teacher (a civil servant) deployed to rural area for my primary assignment, getting to this rural area I needed other source of income to compliment my income and one of the most lucrative one I could lay my hands on was farming... hmm and so I moved close to those that has in-depth knowledge about it, and that's how I started gradually.
Along the line, I started hearing about some group of people that usually disturb the peace of farmers on their farmland, they are called bororo it's a tribe here in Nigeria, they're basically into cattle rearing, they are mostly known for that. But unfortunately, the bad ones are so many these days that we don't know the good from the bad, what these bad set of people do now is to lead their cattle to any farm of their choice and allow the cattle to feed on crops planted by other farmers. They also do commit illegal things like causing harm on anyone that tends to stop them or their cattle from feeding on these crops. In addition they also kidnap people and ask for ransom in return.
It's a very serious issue here that we're facing, I don't think there's a week without these set of criminals committing atrocities. Even the policemen have tried many times to stop them but it's abortive.
Something happened that made me loose interest in farming here, I do hear that they attack people on their farm and even destroy their crops, but it has never happened to me for once. But there was a particular day I witnessed one on my farm. It was like a movie but it's not, it's real... my friend and I went to see my farm, he's a farmer too and I want help me do some things on my farm so it's best I take him there to show him what that thing is and how big it's.
On getting to the farm, we saw that these criminals had entered the farm and virtually destroyed all my maize, it's was rainy season then, I had alot of maize on the farm above three thousand heaps. But these people fed their cows with everything. Seeing this I don't even know maybe I should cry or something because I do pay people to work on the farm for me, and now that they've destroyed almost everything it's means a very big loss. And of cause without any doubt we knew those that could do that evil act, just when I was still lamenting on my loss we saw four bororo men approaching us and each of them with a Cutlass.
Immediately without hesitation we took to our heels and ran as fast as we could, they chased us but thank God they couldn't get hold of us. When they saw that we're approaching the town they went back.
Getting to home, we quickly report to the village vigilante group and thank God they swift into action immediately, a great number of them grouped themselves and move into the bush in search of these perpetrators. Luckily for us, the vigilante group were able to get hold of them and immediately hand them over to the police. I was so happy to see that they get caught.
Since then have been reluctant on farming, i don't want to get into any trouble whatsoever or have anything to do with those criminals, so have just moved my farm nearby, close to the school premises and on a very small scale because of the land.
This is one of the crime scene I witnessed which I don't pray to see such again.
Happy weekend guys, enjoy the rest of the day and stay safe. Thanks for stopping.
