Why I am worth more
Hello everyone, today another post about the contest of the Hive Learners community. Last week I mixed up my article for the second entry with the article for the third entry. Not that much of an issue, as I really enjoyed writing my article. So all good there! This week the theme is about equal pay. I'll try to give my reasoning about equal pay and afterwards I'll give some examples behind my reasoning. Feel free to give arguments against my reasoning as that's how I can become a better version of myself! Enjoy reading!
Why I don't support equal pay
As the title already suggests, I prefer to not have equal pay. BUT before I get people shouting at the window of my room, I want to nuance it. I DO support equal pay in terms of gender, sexuality, disabilities, etc.! I don't support equal pay for 2 persons of the same age, with the same experience, same title but of which 1 person is doing an effort to improve and work as good as he can while the other one is doing the bare minimum without helping others etc.
I heard stories of different friends with plenty of examples. There are people who are just abusing the system in which they work. If someone is doing the bare minimum in terms of its contractual hours or maybe not even doing these, than I think it's not fair that that person is paid the same as someone who is really collegial and trying to help others. It's not only about the hours someone work, but also about plenty of other aspects of work. By the way, I don't want people to overwork for hours, just them doing their 'normal' work.
Another aspect is helping out others. I heard stories of someone who was always asking for help in terms of being too busy. So my friend helped her out as he wanted to be a good colleague. It happened several times. When my friend talked about it with other colleagues, he heard that they were helping her a lot as well. BUT when someone asked that one person for help, she never wanted to help my friend or another colleague out. In my eyes, you're not a good colleague as you're just parasiting on your colleagues while earning the same wage at the end of the month.
Allergic to unfairness
Personnaly I hate unfairness. In my eyes it's unfair that someone is just leeching the system. Ofcourse do I know that such persons exist everywhere and that sooner or later, they will be exposed. But it's not that nice that it's told to the manager by several employees and it's kind of tolerated for whatever reasons. Or atleast it appears to being tolerated.
I hope this post wasn't too much of a complaining post as I really become angry when I hear those stories of my friends.
Feel free to give counterarguments in the comments as I am glad to enlarge my vision about this topic!
