I've heard some people say that they prefer to watch movies in the comfort of their homes than at the cinema and I don't have a problem with that because I do prefer to watch alone sometimes because of a lot of factors, BUT, there are a few exceptions which I like to call THE CINEMA EXPERIENCE
This is a term I came up with after experiencing the joy of watching a popular long awaited movie in a cinema hall full of people. Trust me, the cinema experience is wonderful.
MY CINEMA EXPERIENCE
On May 8th, 2022 the much awaited Marvel Movie, DOCTOR STRANGE: The Multiverse Of Madness was set to be released and I was one of those who counted the days and nights prior to its release.
I've been to the cinema several times to watch movies. Sometimes there'd be a handful of people in the hall and other times, just a few would be watching a movie too and it didn't cross my mind that I wasn't the only one looking forward to being blown away by another of Marvel's awesome movies.
On the day the movie was released, my sister and I planned to go watch it when it'd be shown in the cinema we already planned to watch the movie in.
The waiting area and reception area was already packed with people by the time we got there, luckily we got there ahead of the allotted time that the movie would air which enabled us to get our tickets in time despite the increasing crowd.
I could feel the frenzy and excitement in the air and that was the beginning of the cinema experience for me.
The movie was to air by 04:30pm that day and my sister and I got there by 03:00pm, by the time we purchased tickets there was still a lot of time left to wait and take pictures to document the event.
Soon, it was announced that the movie would air in twenty minutes and it was time to go into the cinema hall to settle in before the movie began. It was a long line at the door because of the number of people that showed up for the movie. There were enough halls to accommodate everyone and within minutes, we were all seated with our popcorn ready to be eaten and soft drinks ready to be gulped.
Every seat in the hall was taken and I kept giving thanks to the heavens that we arrived in time to get our tickets early enough to get seats because if we hadn't been there early enough we'd have to wait for the movie to end before we'd have the chance to see it.
A cheer rose up as soon as the Marvel logo came on and I adjusted in my seat, prepared to get sunk into the multiverse of madness which was exactly what happened.
What gave me that experience was the company of people around me who cheered loudly when a superhero pulled a stunt worth cheering for or laughed at a joke or a collective show of surprise and shock during a shocking scene.
I really enjoyed the movie because I was able to express my various reactions in the company of individuals that understood and expressed the same emotions too.
As the movie progressed, I munched on popcorn without knowing I was eating popcorn because my mind was focused solely on the movie and it was the best well spent two hours of the month of May.
By the time the movie ended, this feeling of euphoria settled within me that didn't disappear for days or weeks even, I think it must have lasted the whole month.
It was well worth it.
Everyone talked about the movie as we exited the hall and I even made a few acquaintances because of the wonderful experience we all had.
After the movie, we went to get ice cream and cookies and we didn't talk about anything else except the movie during the ride home.
I think it's safe to say that the experience I had watching Doctor Strange beat every other experience I ever had watching movies in the cinema and I look forward to having another awesome cinema experience in the future.
