There are economies of this world that in the last 50 years, when you look at where they are coming from and when they are going, you will know that it has been a miracle. Nothing short of a miracle.
If you look at the image that is attached to this post, you will surely see something. The likes of Singapore, Taiwan, South Korea and Ireland, they've come from nobody to become somebody and their GDP per capita grew from 1970 to last year, 2025, has actually grown. Any of these countries, we thought that they are poor and they will continue to be poor, but that is not the case.
50 years has come and it has changed the story and it has shown the countries that are developing, despite all that is happening around. The income level of this country has adjusted to purchasing power and it has multiplied over time, up to 5,000 to 7,000 per cent increase. This kind of compounding doesn't happen just like that and it's not by accident.
It is government creating policies and opportunities that better the lives of its people and making sure that everything aligns perfectly well. So, when you dig behind these numbers that I'm giving up here, you'll find that there should be an opening for global trade and investment and that is what many of these countries did and they opened each other's up for it. Then you can niche down exactly what your country wants to be producing and within just one single product, your company or your country can become the sought-after if you have mastered the scheme.
There's also a place of long-term policy. The failure of this country, Nigeria, is that when a government comes and shows that, okay, this is what I'm going to do, and that government comes and go, they write off what the former one has done, this kind of short-form government is not even helping us in the long run. So, a long-term policy consistency matters when it comes to building or developing a state or its capital.
For countries in Africa, there is a need to be aware of what is happening. This gap can close actually if we are ready to sit with it and make sure that our leaders are held accountable with it. Trust me, if a nation can work with its own citizens to make their life better, in no time, such a president will be so proud of himself.
