Many times, we hear that evolution brings progress and improvement, but there is also a dark side to it. Today, many illnesses no longer respond to drugs the way they used to. Medicines that once worked now seem useless, and this is something I have seen happen in real life, both to my sister and to me.
My sister used to suffer from typhoid very often. It was not just once or twice; it kept disturbing her. Each time she fell sick, we went to the hospital, and the doctors gave her different drugs. We spent money and followed instructions carefully, hoping she would get better. Sometimes she felt better for a short time, but the sickness always came back.
One time, her condition became very serious. She was admitted to the hospital and placed on drips. After many drips, we believed she would recover, but instead the doctor told us something frightening. He said that the typhoid was no longer responding to treatment and that they might have to operate on her. We were shocked and scared. How could typhoid, which people used to treat easily, now require surgery?
My father was worried and confused, so he spoke to someone about it. That person directed him to a man who knew about traditional remedies. The man gave my father some simple ingredients to use. They were things we saw around us every day, mixed with a local chicken egg. It sounded too ordinary to work, but my father decided to try it because we had no other option.
To our surprise, after my sister used the mixture, her symptoms stopped. By the next day, the doctors checked her and discharged her from the hospital. There was no operation again. What many hospital drugs could not do, a simple natural remedy did.
Something similar also happened to me. I once had serious pain in my leg that refused to go away. For many days, I used different drugs prescribed by medical practitioners, but nothing changed. One day, someone advised my mother to use hot water for me. It sounded strange, but we tried it. She put towel inside hot water, squeeze it and place it on the area. After using it, the pain disappeared naturally, without any medicine.
These experiences made me think deeply. Diseases are evolving and becoming stronger, while many drugs are losing their effectiveness. This is the dark side of evolution. However, it also shows that we may have forgotten the power of natural remedies. Our forefathers did not have modern hospitals, yet they survived many illnesses using herbs, nature, and simple treatments.
This does not mean we should reject modern medicine. Hospitals and doctors are very important. But we should also respect and study traditional medicine instead of ignoring it. Nature has helped humans for generations, and it may still hold answers to some of our problems today.
Despite the fear of drug-resistant diseases, I believe humanity still has hope. That hope lies in God, in using medicine wisely, and in returning to safe and proven natural remedies. Evolution may change diseases, but it can also teach us to rediscover what we have forgotten.
