Hey people, it is always a good time to write in the hive learners community. There's no dull moment here, and it is also a privilege to participate on the prompt.
CHILDHOOD LIES TOLD.
HEHEHEHE….. Let me laugh a bit, because I guess I do remember a lot of lies that my parents told me during my childhood. When I remember them now I just shake my head in disbelief because I believed them so much then. But as they day the young age grow and so here i am being a grown up also a mom myself now.
There is this fruit that is natively called agbalumo in Nigeria generally, I guess the English name for it is Starfruit This particular fruit comes in a sweet taste, that is if you are lucky to get one that is actually sweet indeed, but oftentimes the ones I have had the opportunity to munch on are always sour in taste. We just eat them like that. So this fruit has some seeds in it that you are supposed to remove the flesh on and dispose of. But we kids always made the mistake of swallowing them and so then our parent gave us this lie that when ever we eat this fruit we should be ready to grow trees in our stomach, this made us scared especially me at a point I stopped buying it cause I was scared of the outcome, and so I didn't take start fruit any more, till I got older and knew, I have been lied to all my life🤣.
So I guess the reason for them saying that was to stop us from swallowing the seeds as we always had issues going to toilet, we could be in the toilet for hours trying to get the poop out, it wasn't always easy doing this, well I should have known then that this the reason , but my then feeble mind wasn't able to comprehend the fact.😁 I guess we just have to accept our fate as it were.
I still feel some kind of resentment about that particular lie because I wasn't able to enjoy eating that particular fruit, even when it was it season, till date actually, I am still unable to eat it cause it's not something I am used to, as the thought of it growing in my stomach had already filled my head from since when I was a child. 🤣
Another lie we were told as kid was that we shouldn't comb out hair and leave the once that broke out on the comb, they said we should removed them and put them in a place where nobody would take them, preferably in an open fence, you know there are some fences around us that has hole in them, so were always combing our hair and disposing it in the fence to avoid the bad hair man that takes people hair and makes them go bald.
It was all a lie, this was just to make us always remove those hairs from the climb, so we don't have hairs lying around the house, well it was part of our upbringing, so till date I still do that even though I know nobody is coming to take my hair away and make me go bald🤣.
These lies were all said to keep us on our toes I know but it's still a lie.
Thanks for reading
