Life as we know it is full of battles. From the time of birth till the time of death, the battles are never ending. Everyone, big or small, white or black, have or would have had their own share of life's unending challenges. As a young adult myself, I have had my own share of what battles life has to offer.
This challenges, from experience, comes in different forms. However, one particular type will be the biggest and toughest of one's life. This is the "you vs you" battle.
This is are battles that rages within one's self, where we try to overcome some of our personal challenges or make very important decisions that would impact our lives.
This battles are particularly most difficult to fight. They have the potential to be about the biggest obstacle we will face in life. I remember facing a strong addiction while in the secondary school. I suffered this addiction even till my 3rd year in the university.
It started Like an experiment, more like a joke. Before you know it i became hooked. Days turned to weeks. Weeks to months and months turned to years. I got deeper into this addiction. I knew what I was doing was not in anyway helping me but I just could not stop it. I needed help.
The problem was, I know I was the only one that could help myself but I was powerless. I prayed to stop it but I found myself always going back to it. It was a battle that was consuming me.
One day, I summoned enough will power, I have been building it for long. I said to myself "enough was enough" I resolved there and then, with so much determination, that I would not go back to that addiction. Till date that addiction has become history. Now it is repulsive for me to even think about it.
Like I said earlier, everyone would have passed through their own internal battles. They usually take different forms.
Some could be a battle of self doubt within oneself. You find it difficult in believing you can do something or succeed in one. This could be damaging and also limiting to one's growth in life.
Another dangerous battle within oneself is the old customer, Procrastination. Nothing kills one's time like procrastination. It is for a reason they call it the thief of time. I must confess this is a battle I do have from time to time. Things I should have done earlier I tend to postpone till its almost too late. Good thing is, I win most of this battle. Nothing waste one's time as this vice.
Breaking bad habits and addiction is one battle no one will wish to fight. I have been there and I know what it was like. Without a stronger will power, there is no way one can win this battle. So many of this habits has led many to situations they don't desire.
There are so many other forms of this battles. The thing is, none is easier to fight. I have fought and won many, while some, I am still in the process of winning, lol.
One thing one must realise is that, you will need to take proactive steps if you really want to come out of this battles a winner. Some of the actions I took, which anyone can take include
You must develop self discipline and a very strong will power. You see, whatever you do, if the will is not there, your chances are almost next to zero. Self discipline and a strong will power makes it easier for you to take certain decision and stick to it.
Another thing you might want to do is to accept your faults and take responsibility for your actions.
Above all of these, you might need to seek support or counsel from other people. It is for a reason we have counsellors in almost all facet of life. Suffice to say, a good counsel can act as a catalyst to lasting change we seek.
For a fact, anyone can win any battle, even the so called "you vs you" battle. You just have to come to the realisation that you are fighting a battle that could cost you and take the right steps. Believe me, you've got this.
