The holiday season is popular for how people travel all around to visit their loved ones, buy gifts and food items to celebrate, and many more things to mention, but unfortunately, despite this season being an exciting one, there's one particular tradition that I believe needs to stop, and that's the tradition of increasing the price of goods and services during the holiday season.
I'm seriously not pleased with this tradition and felt it needed to stop. Unfortunately, it's not only done by people in different spheres of life but even by people around me, including my mom. Although each time I talk to her, she'll say it's business strategy, and later, when she also visits the market and laments others hiking prices, I remember always making fun of her by telling her it's those people's business strategy as well.
I understand the aim of setting up a business is to make profit, but when you're excessively getting that profit at the expense of others, then I think it's not really an idea, but unfortunately, it's a widely accepted tradition that almost everyone does in all spheres of life, including goods and services.
.
This starts right when you want to board a vehicle to travel down to your destination. You'll notice the high difference in price from what you were last charged. Even if you traveled the previous week that preceded the holiday season, this is really annoying, and yet we complain of bad governance. Meanwhile, what we do to ourselves is also bad, if not as bad as what the government does to it.
It's so disheartening because most times it's not like anything affects the economy; most people just believe that because it's the holiday season, many would have had loads of savings to spend on their loved ones, and their idea is to take as much as possible of that from all individuals.
Aside from the transportation aspect, the same thing happens when you want to purchase gift items and food items during the festive season. Because of my previous experience with all this hike in price, I had to intentionally go to the market to purchase some chicken two weeks before Christmas, and you won't believe that by the time I went to the market during Christmas just to see if my hunch about this tradition was true, the price of the same type of chicken I brought two weeks earlier had increased by almost 5000 naira.
I was like, This is ridiculous and a pure theft that must stop on time; otherwise, we'll keep affecting ourselves, thinking we're fooling others. In the end, you're also duping other places where you want to buy items. So rather than we all trying to get our own part of the holiday goodies bags by hiking the prices of our goods and services, we should let the price remain the same. At the end of the day, we're already getting a profit from the initial price.
Generally, I think it's bad for everyone in general; it's not an idea and shouldn't even be a thing. We should be looking for ways to make lives easier for ourselves as citizens rather than making it harder to add to the terrible situations the government has put us into.
If this were to be widely accepted, it'd make lives easier for everyone, and we'd all have enough to have a decent holiday celebration and even enough left behind for the coming year. Well, that's about it. Let's see how it goes, and if at one point or another we'll all learn and put others into consideration before doing things of this nature moving forward.
That's about it for now. I hope you enjoyed the read and had a wonderful time. Have a wonderful holiday, and God bless.
