Currency represents a nation, just like the naira represents Nigeria, it is a legal tender generally accepted by the public within a country.
A nation's currency is used as a medium of exchange, also in the process of buying and selling, it can be used to transact in the global market. The physical note which is known as the banknote contains images of our previous leaders or should I say political leaders which is too much like a deification of politicians and military leaders, all these persons have an impact on our nation which has led to the betterment of Nigeria in one way or the other no doubt. Without excluding the former indigenous governors of the Central Bank of Nigeria gracing our one thousand naira note.
Since the creation of the banknotes in the year 1979 these faces haven't been changed, I thought the recent currency redesign was gonna feature the face of any current or former president, I feel there should be a need for others to grace our banknote if not always it should be done at least every two decades so others can be given the honor as well.
I am curious why no woman has graced the naira note, even the only known woman that graced the twenty naira note didn't appear in front but on the back of the note, does it mean we don't have women who have done anything to improve the nation, I think women should grace our naira notes as well.
We have great women who have fought for the improvement of our dear nation, we have female heroes also and should be recognized.
Here are people I feel whose faces should grace the Nigerian banknotes
The first on my list is a female which is Funmilayo Ransome - Kuti also known as the "lioness of Lisabi" She was the first female who fought for women's right to vote In Nigeria's electoral practice, during the British reign women were allotted separate taxes she successfully abolished gender injustice, and she also started adult literacy program in Nigeria. "The mother of Africa" she is also known as one of the delegates who negotiated Nigerian independence with the British government and paved the way for women in Nigerian politics. She is the reason women are occupying positions in Nigeria, now we have women participating in politics
Secondly, late President Musa Yar'adu, wished he lived longer to achieve all his plans for Nigeria, despite not staying long in office he was able to tackle numerous problems of the Nigerian economy. During his reign, he aimed at the development of a sufficient power supply to ensure Nigeria's ability to compete as a modern economy which he achieved.
He implemented the niger Delta amnesty program which is aimed at addressing the chaos in the niger delta region, this program contributed to the reduction of violence and increased oil production. The amnesty program was also stationed at giving scholarships to the youths of the niger delta, he assured the security of lives and properties, and He believed in the development of a modern Nigeria.
- Lastly, is a well-known businessman Tony Elumelu is a Nigerian entrepreneur and philanthropist, he is the current CEO of the United Bank for Africa (UBA), is the founder of Heirs Insurance, also the founder of Tony Elumelu Foundation which is focused on supporting entrepreneurs and empowering young African entrepreneurs, this foundation isn't based on Nigerian citizens only, he focuses on the African continent as a whole.
He is also the chairman of Transcorp a coalition with an interest in numerous sectors like hospitality, agriculture, and energy, His accomplishments so far highlight his contribution to the African business landscape, his commitment to fostering entrepreneurship, and his vision for sustainable economic advancement on the continent of Africa which has led to the creation of job opportunities.
Having these faces gracing our currency will keep prompting us of a better Nigeria, these are People who should be recognized for their efforts in advancing this nation.
