I heard self-medication is also known as "do-it-yourself medicine" and in short it would be "DIY medicine "How interesting".
Self-medication as the name implies is being a stand-in doctor to one's self, taking drugs or any substance without a doctor's prescription, now that is our initiative at work. We just assume a certain illness because of the symptoms we are having or from other people's assumptions and prescribe drugs without going through the proper checkups by consulting a doctor.
Few of these self-medications have worked perfectly "Did I just that" Well, it has for some but then there are some whose illnesses are likely to increase after consuming self-prescribed drugs.
When it comes to my part of the world, a lot of people are guilty of this self-medication "I've been in that category before" but I'm glad that my eyes have opened and I've been able to see the good side of always consulting professionals (doctors) before embarking on any journey of taking drugs.
My salvation happened a few months ago "not like it was very recent" so I was very down healthwise, then I called my aunty and explained the symptoms I was having to her, and she asked me the last time I took malaria drugs, then I told her I can't remember, at that moment, she took a little pause "maybe she was meditating" then she opened her mouth to speak again when she said I should treat malaria and in fact, she had been taking this particular drug that had been helpful.
So she recommended "Ooh sorry" I meant to say "prescribed" the drugs for me and asked me to go get them from the pharmacy, so I did. Later in the evening, I started my journey with the drugs and took the first dose. My journey with the drugs was almost coming to an end but then my health wasn't "felt like it was getting worse".
I was still having the symptoms, it felt more like the drugs weren't working on my body, at that moment, I did not bother to call anyone to explain anything, I stood up from the bed, put on some clothes, and found my way to the hospital, when I got to the hospital, I met the doctor then he asked what was wrong, I told him everything including "the way I was feeling".
Then he called out a nurse and asked me to follow her to where they were gonna carry out some tests. After the test was done, I waited a little for the results, and when it came out " lo and behold" it was typhoid while I was treating something else.
The nurse took the test result to the doctor and he prescribed some drugs for me, another journey of taking drugs started but then this particular journey was different from the former. After a few days, I started noticing some changes in the way I was feeling. I finished taking the drugs and I felt a lot better, healthier, and stronger.
I know how self-medication comes in handy and cheap but then our health is our priority, it comes first and shouldn't be joked with.
