Wait, hi... I know it’s literally been since January since I posted on here, and now it’s March already? Where did the time even go? I’ve been so busy with school and our wind section has been practicing literally nonstop, so my brain has been kind of fried. But I’m finally back and I really wanted to check the vibe and see how everyone is doing? I missed this.
Have you seen my mirror selfie from Day 1 though? I will be calling the rest as Prompts now so we do not get caught up with days to give you more time to think and draw. I’m so ready for Day 2.
Day 2: Pop Rocks and Film
Today is about those grainy, close-up shots that look like they were taken on a random day when the light was hitting just right.
The Prompt:
We are drawing a close up of a hand. But it’s not just a regular hand, it needs to have chipped black nail polish. It should look like you’ve been way too busy at rehearsal to actually fix it.
How to capture it:
- The Grip: The hand should be holding something nostalgic. I’m thinking a fizzing lollipop (neon colors) or a faded Polaroid that looks like it’s been sitting in your locker for a month.
- The Grit: Use a lot of noise or grain in your drawing. If you’re doing the candy, draw the little bubbles or the fizz. If it’s the film, make the edges look a little worn out.
- The Background: Draw it against something like distressed denim or maybe the blurry back of a bus seat.
Vibe Check: Keep the colors muted and a little dark. Use those faded greys and blues, but let the candy or the photo be the one thing that has some actual color ok?. It should feel like a photo you found in an old box and forgot you took.
Honestly, I’m probably going to be sketching this in the back of the bus while I'm supposed to be doing homework or on the car with mom going to the grocery store. Can’t wait to see what you guys come up with
