En el océano existen infinidad de criaturas, unas más conocidas que otras, pero todas con funciones dentro la cadena alimenticia y sus respectivos ecosistemas, así que por insignificante o básico que pueda parecer algún ser, tiene un papel, hoy quiero dedicar esta publicación para describir un poco más a un animal marino muy conocido, pero del que en el fondo sabemos, muy poco y es la estrella marina. Este animal es conocido, y motivo de muchas fotografías, pero de su forma de vida alineación y reproducción se conoce muy poco. Así que hoy dedicare estas líneas para darla a conocer un poco más.

Las estrellas de mar, son muy conocidas y al mismo tiempo no, la razón son objeto de admiración y en ocasiones sacadas de sus aguas para tomarse fotografías con ellas, pero muchas personas desconocen tanto de ellas, lo primero es que erróneamente se les cree un pez cuando en realidad son equinodermo.

Los equinodermos son un filo de invertebrados todos ellos marinos cuyo nombre proviene del griego echinos (espina) y dermis (piel) por tanto piel espinosa. Dentro de este grupo se engloban los erizos de mar, las estrellas de mar, las holoturias, las ofiuras y los crinoideos o lirios de mar.

Si algo caracteriza a las estrellas de mar es su forma, ya que se asemeja a las estrellas del espacio, pero las estrellas de mar tienen mucha diversidad y tipo si quieres conocer un poco más por acá les comparto las clases de estrellas de mar para que puedes leer con todo detenimiento al respecto. Otra característica interesante de estos animales es su capacidad de regeneración, y para los que no lo sabían como dato curioso se cree que estos animales no tienen cerebro, si como lo leen, aunque los científicos afirman que en realidad su cerebro se encuentra distribuido por todo su cuerpo, es decir, no tiene una masa encefálica como la que estamos acostumbrados a observar, localizada por completo en un solo lugar, además también poseen un cuerpo delgado y solo habitan en agua salada.

En cuanto su alimentación, las estrellas marinas se alimentan de mariscos, las que no poseen discos de succión, tragan entreras a su presas y luego expulsan de sus cuerpos lo que que no pueden digerir, ahora las que poseen discos de succión se alimentan utilizando estos discos que poseen, los cuales emplean, primero para obligar a la apertura de las conchas de los mariscos y almejas, así cuando consiguen abrir las conchas, agrandan o estiran las membranas del estómago por la boca y las llevan a la abertura de la concha, allí segregan sus jugos gástricos, los cuales descomponen el cuerpo del marisco y de este modo absorben por las membranas de su estómago a su presa.

Ahora bien, en cuanto a su reproducción, las estrellas de mar se reproducen tanto de manera sexual como asexual, en el primer caso las estrellas de mar liberan espermatozoides y ovulas en el mar y estos muchas veces se fertilizan de manera externa, aunque a veces en interna; en cuanto a la forma asexual las estrellas de mar pueden dar la lugar a vida desde los miembros que han perdió gracias a su asombroso poder de regeneración.

En cuanto a peligros las estrellas de mar son devoradas o forman parte de la cadena alimenticia de gaviotas, el cangrejo Rey y Nutrias de Mar, pero esta no es la única cosa que las amenaza ya que tristemente, las estrellas de mar se están viendo muy afectadas por una actividad microbiana que esta en aumento y la cual es consecuencia de materia orgánica de los nutrientes de fertilizantes y herbicidas utilizados en la agricultura y que terminan en las aguas de los océanos, lo cual ha producido que se asfixien al provocar una dificultad respiratoria en ellas.

Finalmente, para quienes no lo sabían muchas veces al extraer una estrella de mar del agua la estamos exponiendo a una posible muerte ya que ellas capturan su oxigeno del agua, así que al sacarlas de agua no pueden realizar normalmente su ciclo de respiración, se intoxican y mueren, así una estrella de mar solo pueden estar fuera del agua de 3 a 5 minutos dependiendo de su especie, pero yo recomendaría no sacarla del agua solo para tomarnos una foto junto a ella, me despido deseando que hayas aprendí un poco más de estos bellos animales, que merecen vivir en paz en sus diferentes ecosistemas, por otro lado si mi publicación te ha agradado puedes dejarme un comentario.

As for dangers, starfish are eaten or are part of the food chain of seagulls, king crabs and sea otters, but this is not the only thing that threatens them. Sadly, starfish are being greatly affected by an increasing microbial activity that is a consequence of organic matter from fertilizer nutrients and herbicides used in agriculture that end up in the ocean waters, which has caused them to suffocate and cause respiratory distress in them.
